That's unique. Do you click enable all protection in the status mode on SB?

BTW, I haven't rebooted in a week and the 12 are still blocked. Is there a patch like the post by dcdc above says? I mean that SB can apply?

This problem seems to be unrelated to that on this thread.

The only suggestion I can make is to uninstall SB completely, disable or uninstall SAS completely, and try a fresh download of SB. Enable all the SB protection, and reboot to see if every item remains protected. The re-enable SAS, and see if it affects the SB protection. If it does not, reboot and check again. That should tell you if SAS is to blame somehow.

I think I have posted on this thread that I have to temporarily shut down Spy Sweeper whenever SB has an update, so interactions between AS apps are not unheard of.

I wonder if whatever other security software you are running - AV, firewall, etc. - might be causing the problem, especially the AV app(s). Also, what is your browser that you are trying to protect? It might make a difference if it is IE or Firefox, but perhaps Javacool can comment on that.

In reply to hipmonky, yes I clicked enable all protection, but they are disabled again when I open up SB again even when I haven't rebooted.

In reply to dcdc, I have Trend PCCillin as AV and ZoneAlarm Free as firewall but I didn't notice the problem with SB until after uninstalling Spybot.

Before uninstalling Spybot, did you remove it's Immunization or leave it in place ?

I just uninstalled it. I thought it would have removed the immunisation as part of the uninstall. But I have, tonight, removed the registry entries i found for Spybot. But what difference does it make? (Please excuse my ignorance.)

One thing i have remembered is that Trend's Susupicious changes thingymejig did say x number of changes had been made but it never says what the changes are - it just lists what has been affected. Am I the only one that's a bit peed off with the lack of info it gives? (Sorry for the unrelated question.)

Spybot(Immunization) and Spywareblaster place their respective Internet Explorer ActiveX, Cookie and Restricted Site database entries in the same Internet Explorer location of the registry. Since a number of database entries are identical, when a user removes protection in one of the programs, the same entry in the other program is removed.

I don't know why we're going in this direction when we should keep the heat on SD, but microsoft suggested I uninstall Spy-bot and I had no problems afterwards. At one time you could have a few anti-spyware programs on your system without a problem. I have Norton scan and Norton Security 2008, SpyBalster, CCleaner, Adaware SE 2007 and they all take different mal-ware off my PC. It's absolutely unacceptable that they can't all run together. Spyware doctor has a paid feature I'd never use till they fix what it does to SpyBlaster, and how could I pay SpyBlaster when I have to manually recheck 12 items everytime I reboot? I can't choose just one because they all work on different items I want to remove or keep off my PC. Seems it's only an issue to the users. None of them want to budge an inch for security's sake.

Why can't SB and SD communicate with each other and fix this? It's crazy. It will come down to me choosing one, eventually, and that does upset me.

Well, getting back to my original problem, completely uninstalling SB and SAS, and then reinstalling them seems to have solved my problem. No restricted sites having protection disabled when re-opening the SB console. I haven't rebooted yet but as that wasn't part of my original problem I doubt it will make a difference now.

Mind you, I did install and run A-Squared, before reinstalling, which found some trojan infections, so maybe that helped too.

Completely, off subject here, but I had to smile at Bubba's little phrase "no man is a failure who has friends". Moved to the US a while back and still have no friends over here. Guess I'm a failure, huh? LOL. Certainly am where computers are ocncerned. Used to think I knew quite a bit about them but people like you show me I know very little.

Thanks anyway, guys, for taking the time. It really is much appreciated. :D

    Hello Javacool,

Spyware Doctor's peculiar behavior / issues it maybe causing on otherwise and seemingly unrelated Windows machines perhaps isn't so much down to a "specific new version" as one with which the corporate Forum my son-in-law mods at his employer's in-house site has grappled.

Please see the link hereunder and reference the "custom build" - the specific differences - between PC Tools' *Starter Edition* produced for the Google Pack versus PC Tools' *Paid Version.*

It's my son-in-law's view that "what the edition starts maybe a certain taste, if not need, for the paid version."

Mind you, it's not my view - as I have none - on these matters. I'm a commodity trader and not a networking and internet security professional like the man my daughter married. She always did want to marry a cop and - I reckon - she's gotten herself the 21st century version of one!

This string caught my particular attention, as we've discussed this item when the kids were visiting. Forgive me if I've waded into waters I shouldn't have on your fine Boards - I shall understand completely if you choose to delete this message.

Suffice to say, our family is not a particularly strong advocate for Mssrs PC Tools' Software. Their Registry Mechanic, to name one, has caused more BSOD's in the hands of novice-to-intermediate users than any other Windows "security program" my son-in-law has ever come across, although I gather it's not strictly speaking a security program. He recommended I use something called the ATF Cleaner instead, which has worked out well for my modest home computing needs.

    Kind Regards,
    J.D.
