Paragon Drive Backup v8.5 Question?

How do I specifically go about performing a backup or copy to an external USB HD with Paragon Drive Backup v8.5? I have posted a similar thread at the Paragon forums at the link below to no avail..

Hello,
with your external drive plugged in what drive letter does it show in my computer? make note it of it.
during the backup wizard select the partitions you want to backup.
if your backing up your windows partition tick the box to backup master boot recond and first hard drive track.
during the second you should have a little dot in the "save to local/network drives" click next.
in the third step click on your external drive letter for example D:/
click on the drive letter of your external drive which you should of found out by going to my computer.
somewhere it should say for example D:/arc_190108164705202/
the name arc_ with the randomly genarated numbers.
default achive name is fine.
click next.
click on backup now.
click on next
it will show all the settings you have choosen.
click on next
click on finish.
on the top menu bar click on view changes.
if you are happy with the changed of doing a backup click on apply and then click on yes to apply changes.
the backup will now start.

Thanks a lot! The step-by-step instructions that you provided are what I was looking for. One last thing, how do I specifically go about creating a Recovery CD? Based upon your experience, is there anything that you can add to the two links below to make the procedure simpler and trouble-free? How about possible recovery cd and external usb HD incompatibilities?

i did find out that the linux based recovery cd doesnt always detect usb external drives.
i notified paragon of this after trying with the linux recovery cd and they sent me a .iso file of the windows based recovery environment.
you burn it to cd like the normal recovery cd.
my advice would be to burn the .iso file of the normal recovery cd to a disc.
plug in your external usb drive boot from the recovery cd to make sure it can see your external drive.
if it doesnt see your external drive use the following link to sent paragon a support request

but is true that is really very slow program?
i mean backup /restore witht the boot recovery cd?

 

Hello,
to backup my system partition which is 12.8gb takes around 8mins.
restore takes about 4 mins.
so it is quite slow but its never let me down.
i am trying shadow protect desktop since its faster but will probaly not ditch paragon completely.

yes it does. unless you need partition manage ment i highly reccomend paragon drive backup professional 8.51
its slower than acronis but it uninstalls cleanly if you dont like it or to update it. and its very reliable.

 

There are two ways to make a recovery CD:
1. Download and burn the ISO image that comes with a purchse.
2. Use the program to create a "Recovery media".

I am no expert on this, but I think the ISO image has some more drivers available. That is why they deliver it separately.

I have created/restored from a USB drive. I can't recall step-by-step, because it is basically a no-brainer.

Is it slow ? It is ~30-45 min for VISTA Home Premium. I just hit the button and go jogging for an hour and it is done when I return. It is slow enough that I am not going to stare at the screen.

Just download the free trial and try it. It is identical to the real program, it just nags you to get a license.

The main thing is IT HAS WORKED FOR ME EVERY TIME.

Yes. In fact, I just did a quick reboot with the recovery disk to verify that it sees my USB drive (a 230 Gig Western Digital MyBook).

After I had so much trouble with a VISTA update and then installing Vista SP1, I figured: "This is the time to really wring out my backup software, since I am starting from scratch again."

So I created and restored images every conceivable way just to prove to myself that it works. I have never had te slightest hiccup with it. I have also just deliberately tried a bunch of oddball archive creation options on various drives, levels of compression, file size limits, etc. All I can say is that they all worked....just like you would expect REAL, ENGINEERED and TESTED SOFTWARE to work.

No surprises is boring to describe, but in this sort of thing "good news".
