I have a gmail account configured in windows mail -vista basic.
I find that only email in the inbox are scanned while downloading. Messages sent to custom folders thru filters are not scanned o_O

    Hi,
Could you be a bit more specific about your settings? Are you using POP3?

    best regards

Maybe you could install Stunnel - ESS will then scan already decrypted email received via Stunnel.

I use POP3 e-mail, most of which goes directly to my own named mailboxes. All is Eset scanned.

I would check your e-mail settings.

I do use gmail with pop3 access in windows mail. From the attached images it can easily be observed that only 4 messages in inbox have been scanned and the 8 messages in the own named folder are not scanned.Protection images are before and after downloading the mails
Any settings need to be changed?

When I send a test email from my Hotmail account to my gmail account using Outlook Express there is no tag saying it was scanned. I have entered ports 995 and 25 under POP3 settings. It is set to append tags to all scanned email. I realize my Hotmail account is HTTP but shouldn't it tag gmail messages? Is it not scanning them?

I know that Hotmail doesn't offer this service any more but since I set this up before they stopped doing it they told me they would allow me to keep it. It's been working all this time.

No mail sent by SSL is scanned. This is common to all anti-virus programs with, as far as I know, the exception of Kaspersky.
The suggestion to use Stunnel is correct, but it can be difficult to set up.

It looks like Stunnel is something I'm not going to deal with. Are Hotmail and gmail not getting scanned at all or are they being watched by ThreatSense or something?

No one seems to have answered my basic question ? Why is mails to my own named folders not getting scanned during download?:(

i have no idea due to not being behind the scenes at ESET, but an educated guess is that only messages from the folder 'INBOX' folder get scanned.
if your gmail sorts your messages into special folders on gmail then i wouldn't be surprised if it gets all messed up when downloading the mails.

i'm not saying you're doing it wrong, i'm just saying that many users would prefer to have all their mail in the "inbox" on the mail server, download all of them and then let your mail client sort them out in folders afterhand.

If mails are scanned in this case, why not in mine?
