There has been alot of update problems lately. Server I think. Try to update manually if you can. I just went back to 2.7. So many bugs with 3.0. Try cleaning out your update cache.

What are the key differences in 2.7 vs 3.0? Do I lose any big security features?

    Where can I find 2.7?

    How? I'm using vista x64

You can find out all the info you need by going here.

    http://www.eset.com/

If you open up NOD32 and click settings under advanced you will see update. Then empty the cache. All reviews of NOD32 are using 2.7. Nod32 2.7 has been voted best AV out there.

You will find alot of posts in here about people going back to 2.7. 3.0 just has a more user friendly GUI. Any questions just ask.

I just reinstalled my whole OS, because after I uninstalled NOD Outpost was constantly crashing.

Can you recommend a good, but simple to use firewall that doesn't have all of these bugs?

    I was using outpost and nod32 v3.0.621

The reason I chose outpost is because it was simple and easy.
    -install it
-open all your apps and let it create rules
-set it one block most mode

Can you recommend a good one for someone who is new to firewalls?

    I'm now using outpost v2.7

OMG.............lol. There are so many choices. LOL. Comodo,Online Armor, Zone Alarm. I believe you mean your using NOD32 2.7 right? As far as firewalls I use Comodo which can be overwelhming at first but PC Mag and CNET gave it great reviews. Online Amror is very good also but alittle buggy. Zone Alarm (free) is very simple but offers the least protection. If I were you I would use Comodo and just be patient while it learns your pc and all the apps you use.Look-n-Stop is also good but not free. I only use free firewalls.

    Thanks, trying comodo 3 :thumb:

Much better than the old version
I used to get tons of popups with the old xp version.

Everytime I would change urls another popup would appear do you want to allow this website with such and such ip address or port at the bottom of the alert...

    Picture this:
You are surfing the net and a popup appears anytime you went to a new website or even a link or a new page within the same website. whether it was google, altavista, comcast, amazon, netflix, or whatever.

After 15 minutes of this I ditched comodo and went to outpost.

This version 3 seems to be alot better.

Just wanted to say thanks and explain why I haven't tried comodo in quite a long time.

The error x1101a means an error writing to disk. Had updates been working properly before? If so, have you recently changed certain system settings? I'd suggest downloading and running Process Monitor during the update process to find out what folder the program is attempting to write into. Then you can check permissions if writing to the folder fails.

+1 Also would have been nice to see some logs from EAV and Outpost, as well as knowing what other protection may have been in the back ground.

I am intrigued by your post, up until a day ago you have been posting that you have had NO problems with v3 at all?? now you have rolled back to 2.7 and recommending others to do the same, does not make sence.

Wrong 3 has quite a bit more going for it than just a new gui.
I find all this amusing really, seeing recommendations to roll back to 2.7, and for what reason, This reason - they have no solution to the OP's problem. Imagine all those forums out there where ppl are having issues with XP or Vista and giving them the recommendation of rolling back to win98/95 heck why not go all the way back to dos.
Before EAV3 was released we had 2.7 and folks were posting questions about issues they were having they weren't being steered in the direction of rolling back to v1 were they.... no.

So come on ppl most of these issues can be remedied or explained, lets get constructive with EAV v3 problem solving not destructive.

    rant over...
    :D

LOL..........................Anyone who doesn't think there is a problem with NOD32 3.0 then look at the posts in here. I my wasnt having any really problems but sometimes web pages load slowly and not even at all. Longer boot up times also. Since going back to 2.7 all web pages load quicker and my boot up times have decreased 2 fold. There was even a poll in here about how people felt about 3.0 and 80% liked 2.7 better. Recently update error have plagued 3.0. I even helped this poster after he went to 2.7.

Oh my, I have to agree that there is a lot of irony here after all your posts that tried to point away from version 3 as being the cause of people's problems. "Slow loading of WEB pages" Hmmmm, I can't say I have not heard of this one.

I know I know..................but I have been paying attention more and more. I retract other statements. Even my gf notices slow web page loading. I really didnt notice it till I switched back to 2.7 and web pages load so much quicker.

Well, a lot of these problems are quite hard to pin down and analyze. Few people have the luxury that I do to experiment with identical machines side-by-side --- let alone the time.

Its amazing isnt it ? You tend to forget after a while when youve been running Version 3 for a few months then switch back to 2.7 just how much faster and better everything runs.
Even my Outlook Express works again and i dont have to turn any of NOD32 off to get My emails scanned and my read reciepts replies sent. ;)
