I don't know where you get your information but I don't see anything in your statement that resembles even remotly the way vista runs. Maybe you should try Vista on a computer that can handle it. Vista is not designed to run on older lower powered computers or even on some newer laptops. I have installed Vista on eleven computers now and they all run just great. no complaints from any of the owners. And I have found that on a computer that has Vista installed cleanly it actually runs faster than XP Pro.

Nice to hear something positive about Vista as I am considering a change from a PC to an iMac partly because of all the bad news I've been hearing about the latest offering from Microsoft.

    this forum is biased!
i reverted back to XP and notice a significant increase in the speed of my computer,

at the time though, i thought vista was fast.

5 different systems, all gamer systems capable of running Vista. It still blows.

That is the nice thing about having several OS's to choose from, you do have a choice. If XP works better for you that is great. And If Vista works better for you then thats great. There are few that really like Linux and seem to be happy. So in summary we can all use what we want, so why just repeadly keep bashing something just because you don't like it or it won't work on your machine. Wouldn't it ba a lot more peaceful if we all just used what we like and leave it at that.:thumb:

There can be no question that when run on the same PC XP is noticeably faster than Vista!

Just to be clear here is the comparison between an existing XP install and a fresh Vista install or between 2 fresh installs on the same hardware ?

Perhaps not always, but in our classroom project using 2 different PCs as a testbed, we found XP clearly outperformed Vista on both machines.

    PC#1 is a 4-year old machine with 3GHz P4, 1GB RAM, 800MHz bus
    PC#2 is new machine with a 3GHz Core 2 Duo, 2GB RAM, 1333MHz bus
(both PCs have a Vista compliant graphics card).

Using a series of 3 available benchmarks we ran the tests on both machines, first with XP Pro as the active OS and then with Vista Ultimate as the active OS. Although I don't have the test details available, I can say that XP outperformed Vista on every test, by about 30% on the older PC and by about 15% on the newer (more robust) PC.

I personally don't have any issues with Vista but I maintain several comps (32) for the school district and On the laptops I have seen some slow systems running Vista. There surely are people that are having issues with Vista but there are a lot that aren't having any problems. I remember when XP first came out and it was not trouble free either. In my opinion Vista will continue to improve and will dominate the PC OS faster than many believe. Eventually computers wear out and XP will cease to be available. Depending which way you look at it this will be either good or bad, we will just have to wait and see.

    Hi!

I've voted for Windows XP and Vista - mixed (more XP than Vista) although that's not entirely true.
At this moment I'm running XP Pro at my desktop (at which I use the most) but I have Vista Business installed at my laptop and at a test PC.
There are several reason's I've done this:
I'm using my desktop pretty much every day and I need to be able to rely on it. With Vista, I'm not sure I can. It's not like that I can't trust Vista but more like I can't trust all the software I need in combination with Vista.
At this moment, when I need a program, I just google it and install it when I think it's a good program. When having Vista, you sometimes encounter several problems during installation or you're ending up with a nonfunctional program.
Then I know for sure some functions and programs aren't working as I would like to see them work. (eg: live messenger, systray behavior).
Second: my laptop doesn't meet the system requirements given by Microsoft. It has a 1,8 Ghz processor, 786 MB of RAM and no separate graphics card. I've disabled UAC because I want to experience full control.
This makes it very interesting to investigate how Vista will run on older computers and with UAC disabled. I am actually using the laptop on a weekly basis.
My test PC is a modern dual core 1 GB and with UAC enabled. Just how Microsoft wants us to run Vista.

Maybe I will install Vista later this year if I'm going to format my XP. But at this point I see too much disadvantages.

Windows XP SP2 only on one of four machines. Plan on staying that way for the forseable future. Work fine, cannot see a reason for going out and buying Vista Ulimate.

For now XP. May need to replace PC 1 soon as a distant family member would like a simple free machine. I offered mine and was surprised when they said yes...:ouch:

I may get a Vista machine then... I have concerns about it....:doubt:

I just installed Windows XP 64BIT at my new machine (Quad Core, 4GBRAM) but I'm having a hard time finding all the drivers I need.

    I won't give up yet ;).

If you want to know: finding drivers for Vista64BIT is almost that hard! But I like XP over Vista.
If I can't XP working I'll take probably Vista Business.

Thanks - 6 months of running Xp may be enough to explain why the fresh install of vista is faster. I doubt if speed differences are much either way - the main problem for many being the lack of drivers, hardware and software not being fully compatible. I'm sure that under certain conditions Vista can be both stable and fast

Windows XP only. Seeing a system consuming a lot of memory at default settings is a turn-off for me.

Same here. Too much fluff and basic issues which shouldn't be in the first place such as program incompatibilities was a deal breaker for me.

Besides, i dunno if XP security vendors superb recent innovations have even reached their peak yet, they appear to still be on a very nice roll and this bodes fantastic for XP users everywhere who are, like me, gonna forgo altogether Vista and wait for the Vienna/Windows 7 series on release.

XP Pro here. I think it will hold up very formidably in wait for MS next O/S version.

XP Pro on mine and wife's machines. We've looked at Vista machines at computer stores and saw nothing we couldn't easily live without.
