Some members, think I'm a fan of FDISR. I'm not.
Fan means "fanatic" and fanatics don't think in the right proportions anymore. It's a light form of madness.
I'm too cold, to be a fan. The only thing that interests me in a software are the shortcomings, I consider the rest as normal.

After leaving the malware forum SWI and knowing how much misery malware can cause on computers, I joined Wilders with only one goal : get rid of malware as quick as possible without doing anything.
The problem was, which software was able to do this job.
First I had ShadowUser in mind, later on FDISR and it took me a year freetime to use it right.

FDISR is an ISR-software that requires imagination of the user.
Turn off/on frozen mode doesn't require any imagination : it's on or off and that's it.
It's not only about FDISR, I had to solve other problems first, that had nothing to do with FDISR and I had to search for the right combination and the right order of doing things.
I also needed a faster Image Backup software, like ShadowProtect.

The final result is that I have now a system, that repairs and cleans itself automatically.
    1. I don't run any AV/AS/AT/AK/AR-scanner anymore.
    2. I don't run any cleaning tools anymore (registry, history, junk)
In fact, I don't do anything anymore than reboot.

I also don't have to waste my time on solving problems anymore.
No research, no readings, no questions, no problem posts, no disaster posts, no waiting, no nothing.
My clean archives solve all these problems, they are doctors, that heal my system constantly.
FDISR is a time saver for me all the way. All I do is work and play.

Does it work ? Last month I ran every popular scanner, not one scanner, like most users have on board, but many. They couldn't detect anything, not even a cookie or MRU.
I don't consider this as an absolute proof, but it's a good indication.
In other words I have something what every less-knowledgeable user only can dream about, but doesn't have. I only need to read the problem posts at Wilders and other forums to confirm it.

Is it perfect ? NO it isn't, that's why I'm still not happy, in spite of what I have already.
    - missing multiple frozen snapshots in FDISR.
    - missing on demand schedules in FDISR.
    - missing protection against low level HDD changes in FDISR.
    - missing protection against BIOS/CMOS changes in FDISR.
    - missing protection against stuff, I don't know yet in FDISR.

Why would I be a fan of FDISR, if all these problems are still not solved and will never be solved ?
I have now a dead software on board, that has no future anymore. Hopeless.
In the future, I have to find an alternative and start all over again.

Frankly, I never saw a software that does its job COMPLETELY, not even when it's technical possible, there is always something missing. It's not only FDISR, most softwares suck.
And the worst thing is : I can't do anything about it. I don't have that problem at work.
So never call me a fan of any software again. :)

Erik, Simple answer, Humans suck so also their creations,we have to live by that but some softwares evolve to NEAR perfection like FDISR and i can imagine that it gives you in your war against human imperfection a sparkle of hope.

FAN - Short for fanatic. An ardent devotee; an enthusiast.

Sounds like a reasonable fit ... to me

Your problem list is just your wish list ... this would turn an excellent product into your ideal

Some of the items you want could be provided by other products today they don't have to be FD

There may be a bit of a linguistic problem here since fan appears to be a simple shorthand contraction of fanatic, it's not, they are very different concepts separated by vast spread of intensity and in the latter case, lack of critical self-analysis.

Fan means you're a simple admirer/supporter/enthusist. If you like something, you're a fan of it. I'm a fan of lots of applications and I'm not about to apologize for that.

Fanatic means you have intense devotion to and display an excessive and uncritical zeal for something. Fanatics are disconnected from reality. It's a term which seems to have been substituted with the all too easily tossed fanboy/fanboi moniker and most folks who toss this latter term around really don't understand the difference.

and since it fits either your natural usage style, or a style that you've evolved into using, that's great. It will work for you.
Lot's of us can say the same thing without using this approach, and from the posts in the FD-ISR forum, I do recall of few bad outcomes as well. Like any approach, it's not a panacea.
I could do the same. I know there will be a couple of false positives, and I know that they are false positives.
Erik, the last two points (possibly the last three) are not even within any reasonable scope definition of the product, and the last isn't in any definition scope of any product..., ummmm, by definition.
You're mixing the job you'd like a particular application to do and the job it is designed to do. For any product you purchase, there is likely to be at least a slight mismatch in these traits since you didn't write the application, and that will always be the case.

If it wasn't for Erik and Peter singing the praises of FD-ISR a while back, I wouldn't have been aware of it and might not have it today. If you don't want to be called a fan maybe enthusiast is a better word. Either way I am thankful to have the software. It saved me again just last week. I won't go into the long story but it saved me a lot of heart ache.:D

It's pointless to explain this, FDISR is terminated and hopefully ShadowProtect will have a longer life.
As I said before, it's not only FDISR itself, it's not only ShadowProtect itself, it's a combination of alot of things and do it in the right sequence to get the final result. You have to see the whole picture and do it like I do or the way I use SP and FDISR is useless to you.
I didn't explain how I did it in my post. I explained it over 7000+ posts.
For instance everybody uses their archives as backup, I use my archives as cleaning tool all the time in my actual system partition, never as backup.

Talking much about FDISR, doesn't mean I'm a fan, it's one of the few subjects I can talk about. I can't talk about internet-related or malware-related or anti-malware-related subjects, because I don't have enough knowledge. I lose any discussion about these subjects immediately. The only thing I can do is listen and say yes.

Besides, each time I complained about FDISR, all members told me to keep my mouth shut, because FDISR saved them so many times that any bad remark was unfair.
FDISR saves you, because that is its job, just like ShadowProtect, that doesn't mean the software cannot be improved.

FDISR does alot for me, but it's not enough and the missing points I mentioned are accomplished in other ISR-softwares, like DeepFreeze, Returnil and ShadowDefender, they are just forgotten in FDISR. What can be done in one ISR-software, can be done in other ISR-software also.

So I'm not a fan of FDISR, I just like it and now it doesn't matter anymore.
I wasted my time on a software that is terminated and now I have to start all over again to get the same thing. Simply said, I worked for NOTHING.

Not a fan, but just like it. That's almost as funny as saying you wasted it your time on it. Come on.

Heck I am a fan, and I admit it. It hasn't stopped working. I don't think it's going to stop next week, so I hardly think it's time wasted.

Erik, I don't think it's terminated yet and we have to start all over again right now.

I'm sure this program will be doing it's job on my PC for the next few years. At least as long as I keep WinXP Pro, and I don't plan to change before 4-5 years.;)

Objectively speaking, this particular quoted statement rings very true to form & right on target, at least where i'm concerned. Theres been real and successful results realized which is forged my loyal confidence in it.

This topic title however appears somewhat contradictory though, especially originating from a customer/user of the original FD-ISR.

One can only speculate that the overtones of the title has more to do with FirstDefense's transition to new owner/distributorship, because frankly, like many of you, i'm not privy to any of the exact agreements that transpire between companies when it comes to such new acquistions, but the program as everyone knows is been remade. Some obviously find that not exactly to expectations but is the nature of ALL software. I can only venture to offer that today's market forces guide a lot of such new mergers and transitions, but those forces are not in our control, so we're really limited in that respect.

I recommended FDISR, not a good AV, I don't use an AV or any other scanner.

btw, if i recommend KIS, RollbackRx and Returnil to my friends this is because i'm a fan of that software. :ninja:

I don't do what you do or use FD-ISR as a recovery agent against malware, and yet a number of scanners show my system clean also. It's more to do with what you do online. ;)

Who needs to worship a program of such legendary standards that FD-ISR was.

Just be eternally thankful to the LEAPFROG group if with it you're one of the lucky ones who finally got to thumb their nose up at microsoft for a change instead of taking it on the chin like their customers been so used to suffering from for so many years.

I get the same result just by using Opera browser (and IE + Sandboxie for a few sites that don't work in Opera). But I love FDISR for reversing experiments that go wrong.

FDISR isn't dead. It just can't be purchased anymore. All 4 of my machines that have it still run fine, and I have the installer. Far from dead.
