I am graudually working my way through these ISR/Imaging programs till I can find one I can live with and afford.

Now trying out Eaz Fix 8.1. Is this the same as RollBack or just similar?

I have severall partitions, some of which I want EF to monitor. I first thought that it would keep independent snapshots for each partition, but now think it groups them together - is this correct?

I included my data drive but don't want that one rolled back with the rest. Is there a way around it?

    TIA

I think I have just worked that one out, but have another query.

I want to try out the image recovery but the option to create a Bootable CD/DVD is greyed out. Is this a trial limitation or have I missed a step out?

    Eaz-Fix = RollbackRx = AyRecovery = Radix Reload.
There is no law against cloning softwares yet. :D

    Thanks Eric

I have looked briefly at the others and it seems that EF is the only one that includes and imaging module, but talks about producing an ISO image to boot from and neglects to tell you how to produce an ISO, unless they mean to you to purchase an extra program.

Bit lost here so if someone could help me out please.

    Thanks

That is a far as I got. It is looking for an ISO but no information about where it is or how to create it. The top option for a bootable CD is greyed out.

You should get 2 options one for CD/DVD and one to create ISO image file
I don't know why option 1 is greyed out (I assume you have a CD/DVD Rewriter)
selecting the ISO will save a file to your computer which you can burn later
Not sure if the trial version is limited but it does say it has full feature on their web site

Well, I understood the same. I do have a DVD burner and Deep Burner as they recommend. Just tried a reboot in case it needed it.

I have written to support so will see if they answer.

I'm a new user of EAZ-FIX too and now am quite settled with it. It's not raised any problems or issues at all and is running pretty well, plus it's a snap to make a snapshot in a matter of seconds. I do realize snapshots are an offspring of the BASELINE but i've grown comfortable with that technique now, and especially since you can use the program's snapshot explorer to manipulate or otherwise make changes to the BASELINE if you're in any doubt at all.

The LOCK snapshot is a nice feature, although i only LOCK the BASELINE, if something was to go south on the other snapshots thats no problem either, i regularly UPDATE THE BASELINE and don't worry about the other snapshots. But the other snapshots are reliably stable and dependable, something i never experienced with RollBackRx before.

I do find it one-dimensional as compared to FD-ISR, but thats ok, EAZ-FIX employs a unique different measure of preserving your system/data that you don't have to concern yourself over. The .ebi images/archives of EAZ-FIX are quite flexible IMO.

Over all i'm satisfied with it.

Rollback RX 8.1 has a linux based imaging module, its probably the same one as used in eaz fix. Your trial version version probably disables the ability to create a boot cd.

Pete, please keep in mind, i maintain a large compliment of inventory of Hard Drives, so am not limited in that respect. I live a stone's throw from a busy Computer Repair shop and have good personal relations with it's owner. I'm lucky in that i'm a regular customer also so i'm at liberty to regularly receive resonable disounts on many HARD DRIVES.

And believe me, it's been of great help for me technically to have such resources available at any time in order to experiement/research drives/systems without any real fear of loss or disappointment when the research drives experience problems or failures of one sort or another.

So no, FD-ISR will always remain my best app..

    Thanks for your reply

I have written to support and there is nothing about it being disabled. They have told me to proceed with the second option which does not help as that requires an ISO to proceed. I think I will try RB and see if that is any different

The latest version of RollBack Rx, of which Eaz Fix is a clone, has imaging built into it.

Just made a test to use the CleanMBR to wipe the MBR.

Both EAZPRO and Rollback_Rx can not prevent the "damage".

    Thanks

Yes I see that the latest version does have that now.

Still leaves the problem I have of how to restore since creating a bootable CD is greyed out and no info is given about making an ISO since you cannot proceed on the second option without having one.

Has anyone any idea of how to proceed please.

The second option should allow you to use an existing file or create an iso file to somewhere on your computer which you can then burn to a CD
Where it asks for filename, type in what you want to call the file and where to save it "example" C:\Recovery ISO
You can also browse for a folder by pressing the box at the side of the filename box

    Thanks

I had a note from support to the same effect. Obvious really but I was not expecting it to work like, but rather have some pre prepared ISO.

Having done that and rebooted to the CD there are then further problems. It loads ok then something about not being able to load the network. This can be cured by disconnecting the USB drive, but either way it still crashes when you go to restore an image. There is a message on screen saying "Checking drives ............. 100%" and there is stops. Tried several times and always the same.

I am tending to lose interest in these ISR programs. I have lost more data with them than ever, even when I have corrupted a HD.

In this current test I also protected my data drive and set it not to roll back, but when you do a roll back a screen comes up about synchronising files which you can cancel, but I did not and I think it is at this point it rolls back my data drive, which should not happen to my way of thinking.

Is it bad to run them together or are you just letting him no he can run them together so he is even safer?

    Thanks,

    Chris

My point was it probably isn't smart to run them together.

I learned my lesson the hard way from Rollback when it took me on a journey i never imagined a program of this nature would do.

Took some real courage for me to try something on that order again, but with EAZ-FIZ i'm completely satisfied with it's snapshots/restore ability among other features, plus is exhibits none of the disaster scenes i was faced with rollback such as losing data, failed boots to snapshot, etc. I just chalked it up i got a raw deal on a not yet refined program so ditched it for EAZ-FIX.

With EAZ-FIX, i don't care how close to cloned it is to Rollback, IMO it is proven to me infinitely more reliable and stable, plus trustworthy without end.

The .ebi image snapshot files are quite flexible to my liking and at least now i can benefit from the 10 second snapshot bit without fear of losing data or worse. Theres something very stable and well worked out in EAZ-FIX code that suits my goose and it looks like i landed a good one in it.
