it's always the best to restart the comp. after each unisntallation/installation ... this will 'reset' the kernel and services ...

I understand the proxy is by design, but it does appear that some users are unable to remove applications from the proxy, was this by design?

Due to other threads/posts, I installed to look at this, I did not come across this problem, but it does appear for others. Have you looked into this? Have you thought about giving an option to not have the proxy installed during installation (as with IMON)?

From your point of view, this is customer relations. This does not appear to be going well with a number of users.
I myself, well, even though I have not seen this problem, I have not renewed (should of been at the beginning of this month), and I will not now due to the problems put forward.

    Regards,

I agree with you - a clean install is always the best bet.

Walc, if you prefer re-installing over V3, no problem as Marcos has declared - however, for folks who are running V2 presently, V3 doesn't appreciate being installed over V2 (V2 must be uninstalled before one attempts to install V3.)

I'm one of those that on previous 3.0 releases always had to revert back to 2.7 because my computer was too slow.

Decided to give 3.0.621 a change and so far it looks good: no problems and cumputer speed is the same as in 2.7.

    Happy Christmas!

I just did an install over my version, which was the v3 just before 566. After I first did it I had an icon in my notification area but after switching off for the night and turning on this morning it has disappeared.
I know the program is working as it did an update shortly after.

Does anyone have the problem with the new version when email integration is turned on in Windows mail with when after send or receiving mail it will minimize the Windows Mail screen to the task bar. No big deal here put I did not have this problem with 566.

:) Don't worry - your tray icon will make a reappearance (generally after a reboot.) You're right about the program - it's definitely working.

The above behaviour of 3.0.621 was evident in previous V3 releases, too - you may check the discussions at the following link:-

just wanted to say: this is a great release. A lot faster generally (browsing, bringing up the advanced setup tree - used to hang for ages), nice little tweaks and some good bug fixes.

My own thoughts are that NOD32 2.7 was always going to be difficult to match/surpass. For me ESET are the victims of their own success, but give it some time and we'll be comparing the next version with the truly excellent version of 3.x :D

i will be renewing my licenses again next year, always money well spent with ESET.

    cheers, lee

Yes I'm not really worried as I didn't have it in the previous version, I had seen that thread but thanks for posting the link. As long as it loads at startup, which I know it does, I'm not bothered as the only things that show next to the clock are my ZoneAlarm and Internet connection, I don't like my taskbar to be too cluttered ;)

I upgraded one of my systems from V2.7 to V3.0.566.0 on 12/10 and worked on it for over a week (mostly email, but some large file downloads and transfers too). I didn’t notice any of the performance degradation that others have mentioned.

Fast forward to the morning of the 21st, transferring even small files to/from my NAS drive suddenly became a complete nightmare. Small (<1MB files) would take a couple of minutes to transfer. The 8.8 GB file that I later chose as my “ benchmark testing” file would take five minutes and Windows Explorer would appear to freeze (show up as “Not responding”) until it finally completed. Larger files would sometimes cause Windows Explorer to crash.

As soon as I turned off Real-time file protection in NOD32, the problem would disappear. In fact, transferring the 8.8 GB file to/from the NAS drive was faster than I could manually measure (sub-second). Turn Real-time file protection back on and the problem was back.

I scratched my head and tried to figure out what changed. The first thing I did was a complete Windows PC Restore to a backup I made immediately after originally upgrading the system to V3.0.566. I also turned off Windows Automatic Updates because I didn’t want there to be a chance that updates from Windows Update caused the issues. No go. Restoring the system to 12/10 right after upgrading to V3.0.566.0 or to V2.7 earlier on 12/10 and then upgrading to V3.0.566.0 gave the same results; transfers to/from the NAS were a mess…probably not a Windows Update problem.

I thought about what else might have changed and came up with the Virus Signature updates. It is just a wild guess, but maybe something about the new signatures didn’t mix with some bugs in the heuristic algorithms.

It also became a moot point. A good tester would have done more PC restores with Virus Signature updates turned off. I didn’t take the time. I just updated the system from V3.0.566.0 to V3.0.621.0 and my file transfer performance nightmare was gone! In the case of a another system with identical HW/SW, I upgraded that system directly to V3.0.621 from V2.7. They both performed identically as expected.

Bottom Line: Upgrading to V3.0.621.0 from V3.0.566.0 cured the performance nightmare the popped up unexpectedly on this system (System B listed below) after it seemed to be running fine on V3.0.566.0 for over a week.

Since I had already blown so much time looking at the performance and crashing issues, I decided to perform some simple “benchmarks” for myself using the 8.8 GB file: I tested three systems side by side copying files from a 8.8 GB NAS drive to the local system’s desktop and downloading the same file from a website:

    System A:
3.4 GHz Pentium processor w/ Hyperthreading
    Vista Ultimate
    2 GB Memory
    100BaseT NIC
NOD32 V2.7 set to maximum scanning (all objects and scanning options set)
    Optimized scanning left turned on

    System B:
Q6600 2.4 GHz Quad processor (Not over clocked for this test)
    Vista Ultimate
    4 GB Memory
    1000BaseT NIC
NOD32 V5.0.621.0 set to maximum scanning (all objects and scanning options set)
    Optimized scanning left turned on

    System C:
Q6600 2.4 GHz Quad processor (Not over clocked for this test)
    Vista Ultimate
    4 GB Memory
    1000BaseT NIC
NOD32 V5.0.621.0 set to maximum scanning (all objects and scanning options set)
    Optimized scanning left turned on

All three systems have the same 15 Mbps Internet access and are attached to the same Gigabit switch.

System A Results (NOD32 V2.7 w/ maxed out settings except as stated below)
8.8 MB file Internet download w/ AMON and IMON turned on: 74 sec
8.8 MB file Internet download w/ AMON turned on and IMON turned off: 64 sec
8.8 MB file Internet download w/ AMON turned off and IMON turned on: 47 sec
8.8 MB file Internet download w/ AMON and IMON turned off: 47 sec
8.8 MB file transfer between NAS drive and Desktop w/ AMON turned on: 10 sec
8.8 MB file transfer between NAS drive and Desktop w/ AMON turned off: Sub-second

System B/C: (V3.0.621.0 w/ maxed out as stated above except as stated):
8.8 MB file Internet download w/ Real-time scanning on and iexplorer.exe HTTP scanning on: 48 sec
8.8 MB file Internet download w/ Real-time scanning on and iexplorer.exe HTTP scanning off: 48 sec
8.8 MB file Internet download w/ Real-time scanning off and iexplorer.exe HTTP scanning on: 40 sec
8.8 MB file Internet download w/ Real-time scanning off and iexplorer.exe HTTP scanning off: 39 sec
8.8 MB file transfer between NAS drive and Desktop w/ Real-time scanning on: 20 sec
8.8 MB file transfer between NAS drive and Desktop w/ Real-time scanning off: Sub-second

The testing was far from scientifically perfect, but I repeated each test at least ten times and took the average. It was encouraging to see that the download tests seldom varied more than a few seconds and the copy tests never varied more than two seconds.

Of course the issue of comparing these tests is that the system running V2.7 had a significantly different configuration as compared to the two running V3.0.621.0. I plan to fix this by updating this information by the end of the week with similar test information for System A after I have upgraded it to V3.0.621.0. This will give a better “apples to apples” performance comparison between V2.7 and V3.0.621.0.

I’ll also over clock one of the two Q6600 processers to about 3.4 GHz and see how that affects the performance comparison.

I just upgraded from 2.7 Everything seems to be working just fine......EXCEPT it appears to have broken my SPAMfighter function in OE. o_O Anyone else use SPAMfighter? If so, have you found the same thing?

Any help on this will be the best Christmas present I will receive this year! :D

Yes, the new version works well. Changes in management have liked. The one thing, that is not pleasant to me, that the more service ekrn loads CPU the less speed of Internet connection.

    Yours faithfully, ALEX (XX).

What is going on, download servers actually contain old version 3.0.566 (even download link sows 3.0.621, actual downloaded file is 3.0.566), already at least for few days.

I understand, it might be some mirroring issues, but I have tried it in 2 different countries in Europe and Asia and it is the same.

I'm getting less 100% cpu bugs, still get them on some pages and sometimes if i view video on my PC. it will lock everything up for a few minutes unless i disable the AV.

Its better but still not great for me, my next pc will be quad core so hopefully it won't affect me as ill have 3 working cores still :)

It's got to be cache issues, probably at your ISP or hosting service. The new version is completely released. ESET is not holding it back. There are plenty of real problems with the new version, providing the old version to people is not one of them. If you are still getting the old version, then change ISPs temporarily, refresh cache, or get away from transparent cache servers at your ISP. The new version has been there for days. :doubt:

As you have been told previously, here, it may very well work for you, but, it doesn't work for everyone. There are real problems, and your constant posting that everything is perfect, or that everyone with problems is at fault themselves, is the worst kind of trolling I've seen here in ages.

You are the weakest link. Do not return to Wilders Security ever again.

    Thanks LWM.

If you have a problem that you can consistently reproduce, file a problem report with Eset.

The download hang issue is not consistent but I can reproduce the email problem in my post here: https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=195647 every time.

I filed a trouble ticket with ESET and received a reponse this evening. I supplied the requested info so its back to waiting.

Make sure you are downloading the AV and not the suite.
