    Hello Everyone,

We have NOD32 V2.7 on our Windows 98 machines. We have noticed lately that they have started to crash. I have been looking at the update logs and the event logs and nothing jumps out. I run virus scans on them every day at 3:00am but that isn't when they are crashing. I can't seem to find the issue. Does anyone have any ideas on why they may be crashing or is there a system issue with Windows 98 and Nod32?

    Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Derek

FWIW, I started experiencing Win98 problems Tuesday morning (Nov 20)... inability to complete file downloads (system hangs) using both IE and Opera, inexplicable minutes-long delays in various Explorer file operations, and the inablility to read file Properties via Explorer. In frustration, I restored C: to a known-good image file from Oct 30 and everything worked fine - for a brief period. But when I went online, NOD32 automatically downloaded its updates, one of which is the Advanced Heuristics Module v1068, build 1169, dated 19 November 2007. As soon as updating concluded, the system file and lockup problems reappeared. By trial and error, I found that unchecking the "Advanced heuristics" option under the AMON module's settings immediately stopped all the problems and the computer returned to normal.

I'm unsure whether there is something in the new AHM module update that's contributing or causing the glitches or if the problem lies elsewhere in how NOD32 is now running on this system. All I know is that if I run NOD32 with the updates current for 30 October, the problems do not occur. It does seem that when I download a file or try to open a file properties panel in Explorer, NOD32 is taking a very long time to process its file inspections if AH is activated in AMON. On one occasion, I had attempted to open 4 files' properties panels with no response... then abruptly, after perhaps 3 minutes, all the properties panels suddenly appeared. But usually, the system would hang completely and require a pushbutton reboot to clear it.

You might try at least temporarily disabling AMON's advanced heuristics to see if it has any effect on your problem.

    Blackbird,

Thanks for your reply. Sorry it took so long to get back with you but I had completely forgot about this post. I will try that and see if it works.

    Thanks,
