Someone just REALLY likes OA a lot, lol. In all seriousness though, I've tried:

    ZA Free and Pro

    Sygate

Windows Firewall (It does too count, leave me alone!)

    Comodo 2.4

    OA Free and Paid

    Outpost

    Webroot

Norton Internet Security and KIS (yeah, suites, I know, but they DO have firewalls :) )

    Comodo 2, 3
Zonealarm free in the old days
    Tiny
    Sygate
    Jetico
    LnS
Anit Hacker as part of Kaspersky
    ESS firewall
    8 Signs

    Currently using Webroot
    Simple, mildy configurable
HIPS gives a manageable number of popups while still maintaining good control

I have tried and have used for sometime.

    Sygate for months
    Outpost for weeks
    Tiny Firewall for years
    CHX-I for weeks
    8signs for weeks
    Forticlient for weeks
... and all the others for some days.

Now I use Injoy Firewall, I think I found exactly what I was looking for. I haven't noticed this at all for so many years and it is a small piece of art. Even better from the days of Tiny.

    Regards

For my Windows 98 systems - Zone Alarm up to 6.1

For my XP system - Windows XP SP2 firewall and Sygate 5.6

Programs have NEVER given me a BSOD since I used the PCs. So far, no "detectable" security breach. I used to get a lot of annoying message popups, but I turned that option off. I guess I am one of the "stupid ones" in the world. :p

Is it 'fair' to nominate OnLineArmor? Are we blinded by the HIPS when nominating its firewall?

If OLA is acceptable then I'm chipping in with Prosecurity.:D

First of all there is really no nominating, just firewalls you've tried.

Secondly, Online Armor is indeed a firewall in everysense of the word. Prosecurity isn't. It is an excellent program, just not a firewall.

    1. I started with ZoneAlarm Free.
    2. Then I used Look'n'Stop, which losts its activation code and serial number too many times.
    3. Now I use WinXPproSP2 Firewall, because I had no time to find a better one.
    I use a D-link DI-604 router as well
    I don't understand my router, I don't understand my firewall, I don't understand internet.

Btw does anyone know if McAfee is configurable for internet connection sharing on an ICS host? I posted at the McAfee Help forum but have gotten no reply yet. :)

    1. Outpost Pro - for 2 years until 3.0, which I disliked due added AS and also I did not want to use a cracked firewall.

    2. I tried various free firewalls, I stayed with Kerio and Jetico for some time, but I did not like them at all.

    3. Comodo 2.0, I was lucky, that version 2 was just released, so I sticked with it for a long time.

    4. I used no firewall for a year, since I found it useless, until I started using Vista firewall.

    5. I just tried Comodo 3.0, but it is too much overlap, so I decided to keep Vista firewall.

I just love Outpost Pro, but it is paid and Comodo 3 sucks more than version 2 did.

Many, many firewalls. My first was Sygate, three or four computers ago. Since then, I've been through so many I don't remember them all.

Now, I just use a hardware firewall.

Of them all, my favorite was Visnetic.

I can also add that I spent enough money on various firewalls that, if I had it right now, Christmas would be paid for.

On test boxes, I've tried several versions of ZA, a couple versions of Kerio, Tiny, and Sygate, NIS, and a quick try of Jetico. My primary PC and most of my present test boxes are running Kerio 2.1.5. If I could find something else that was equally as configurable without being a cluttered mess and didn't waste system resources, I'd give it a try. I seriously doubt any vendor is going to release one that well designed anymore, especially when the trend is towards automatic rule creation and suites that include everything including hot and cold running water. I'll change when IPv4 no longer works on the net.

I am not into the testing of security aps, but do want easy, light protection to keep my workstation uncompromised and uninfected. I started off with the free zonealarm about 10 years ago and then moved to the Pro version when I got off of Dial Up and onto ADSL. Then I went back and forth between ZA and Outpost for a couple of years with a quick trial on Comodo 2.3 thrown in there. Seeing the free offer for Online Armor made me interested and I did the trial of the paid version and it seemed to fit my needs perfectly, so I bought a year's subscription.

    I have tried;

    ZoneAlarm
    Comodo v2.4 & 3.0
    Kerio
    Outpost
    Online Armor

My favourite by far has been Online Armor. It's very light on resources, offers excellent protection, loads of really handy options which I didn't see on others, such as auto-restart selected programs if they are terminated (very handy for protecting AV's). I have found absolutely no bugs and it rarely keeps bothering me with popups. :thumb: I plan to buy the full version soon.
