Comodo Firewall V3

The defense + security level is set to inactive on the summary page. If you click on the inactive it takes you to the next page which shows clean pc mode. Why does it show inactive on the summary page?

 

Inactive means that you installed in simple mode which disables defence+ completely.

 

I am having problems with outlook express since I downloaded comodo firewall V3. I am receiving email fine but I cannot send email. I have disabled the firewall and still cannot send email. What can I do?

 

I am having problems in determining whether a file is to be a trusted application, an updater/installer, a system application, etc. Is there somewhere that this is explained? Also what is the difference in remove and purge?

 

See the helpfiles for predefined rules. Trusted means the application will not have more than 1 popup. I use this setting for almost all my applications. Use installer/updater when using an installer or an updater application is used so it will not have popups for transfering files.

Always purge first thing. Purge will remove any file that no longer exists. Remove will just take the file off the list but not off the drive.

I usually just purge, lookup all files, remove all files. I would rather disable pending files but it is not possible so i just pick all and remove.

 

Am I correct that any file that system 32 is listed in will be classified as a system application?

 

I've the free Comodo software and for BF2142 it asked me over twenty times if I wanted to allow or disallow. That is too many questions.

 

You should of read the help file. Treat as application "Trusted Application"

According to Melih, when v3 was initially released one or two ports were missing. Port 995 and 587. If you enter these port numbers you might be in business for outgoing mail.

 

I've also faced the same problem with Outlook 2003 when I first installed CFP v3. After playing around with all the options and settings, one tweak worked for me.

At the top of the CFP v3 Main window, you'll see four icons, click on the one that says 'Firewall'. Then you'll see two icons on the left side of the window, click on the one that says 'Advanced'. After which, four options will appear on the right side. Click on the one that says 'Network Security Policy'.

Another window then pops up. Click on the 'Application Rules' tab and look for the Outlook Express icon and double click on the icon. You should see the Outlook Express icon there on the list of applications since you mention you can receive e-mail. If not, you can add it in manually.

Again, another window pops up. Click on the 'Use a Predefined Policy' radio button and select 'E-mail client' from the slide menu beside this radio button. Then click on the 'Apply' button twice to return to the main CFP window.

In summary, what I'm doing here is to flag the Outlook 2003/Outlook Express as an e-mail client instead of the default 'custom'.
