    regseeker is like a free version of jv16 :D.

    It finds tons. The latest version has good reviews and does not mess up sometimes like it used to. I use CCleaner though.

    Never used 'em ever in 12 years of Win.... but... some people use 'em and like 'em.. I personally feel that the registry is something that is best left alone.

    Re: Your Thoughts On Registry Cleaners

    Ive used many registry cleaners and, except for RegSeeker, I havent had a problem with them.

    That said they dont provide great improvments, and if youd rather be safe, is best not to use them.

    Re: Your Thoughts On Registry Cleaners

    I remove any change in my system partition during each reboot and that keeps my registry = registry as it was installed the very first time and that counts for every object installed in my system partition.
    I don't remove unused registries installed by legitimate softwares either, because that's not a good reason.
    In other words I don't allow any change in my system partition, unless I want it myself and that keeps me completely in control.

    When I read this, I was sad. Then I read your signature. That made me laugh :D

    Registry cleaners can cause problems if you don't know what you're doing. They can also fix problems. But most times, in most cases, it's like defragmenting: pointless. The registry has always been an important part of Windows. It's best not to leave it alone, but to learn about it.

    I use CCleaner as it is an 'easy on the registry' cleaner. I have never had an issue using it. The old Regcleaner is also good but a little more aggresive. There's my 2 cents.

    Re: Your Thoughts On Registry Cleaners

    I use RegSupreme Pro from Macecraft Software, it has two scan settings: Normal and aggressive. I never choose aggressive as it might delete something useful.

    Most of these cleaners (if not all) have the possibility to save(backup) the changes, therefore if something suddenly is affected the deleted entries can be quickly restored.

    I agree that under normal circumstances they are not necessary, but sometimes if you want a clean uninstall without any leftovers, they can be really helpful.

    That why I replace my registry with the original one during each reboot. No cleaning needed, always safe and very simple, but what I like the most : it doesn't require any knowledge of registry and which average or even knowledgeable user knows exactly the purpose of each registry ? That is quite impossible, considering the huge number of registries, unless you belong to the 2% of the world population.

    I've never found a speed improvement w/ a registry cleaner. But, being a self-proclaimed masochist, I use JV16 Power Tools 2007 and Tune-Up 2007 after I remove software or on a monthly basis w/o and issues.

    Well, TuneUp 2007 removed the context menu for suDown so I've stayed away from that program at least. I've tried CCleaner a few times and seems ok.

    Eusing free registry cleaner is very good. If you do not believe me then check download.com, snapfiles, fileforum.

    All reviews are good except for the idiots who rate it low for having a nag screen? There are no reviews which say it damaged their system. Eusing is as aggressive as regseeker but a lot safer. It could compete with jv16 registry cleaner at no price although it deserves a donation.

    Re: Your Thoughts On Registry Cleaners

    While the contention that cleaning the registry does not yield a noticeable improvement in performance may 'hold water', the main reason I use a reg cleaner is to find and delete left-over entries after uninstalling software.

    I have found that Control Panel's Add/Remove Programs (and every other Uninstaller I've tried) does not remove all registry entries belonging to the software being uninstalled. I have experienced situations when those left-over entries create conflicts/problems with other software!

    So my goal in using a reg cleaner isn't to achieve better performance, but to find and remove those 'orphaned' entries (I only run it after uninstalling software). In that regard I've found jv16 Power Tools to be quite capable, but not perfect. On the other hand, Rollback Rx does a perfect job of rolling your system back to where it was before installing any software! :thumb:

    Yes, but its configuration files are an open book for everyone. Not a very smart idea to make these files accessible with a simple software, like Notepad or any other editor. Lots of software use that method. I call that lazy programming.
    That stuff doesn't belong in a .txt-file, but in databases, only accessible by Eusing Free Registry Cleaner.

    I recommend Wise Registry Cleaner. It segments "safe" from "risky." If you clean only "safe" it's very.. uh ... safe. It backs-up every change, so "safe" becomes "even safer." It's FREE!

    Support forum is Yonder.

    A registry cleaner is a useful tool, like a hammer is a useful tool. Never use a hammer to kill a fly on your baby's forehead. By the same token, never use a registry cleaner without first backing-up.

    I have two:
    • CCleaner
    • RegSupreme

    Like any other tool, they're only as safe and as good as the person wielding it.

    Trustworthy (freeware):

    MV RegClean - very good and reliable;
    Eusing Free Registry Cleaner - safe;
    CCleaner - safe.

    None of these (freeware) I advice:

    RegSeeker - too aggressive (even harmful: 'blue screen'); if you want to use it "Select all Green items" ever...
    Wise Registry Cleaner - removed valid Shared Dlls'links (from .NET Framework);
    Registry Repair (Glarysoft) - removed valid uninstall info.
