A good easy to use firewall

Well, it appears some prefer style over substance.

 

Is Online Armor out of line?
I thought it was a "set it and forget it" firewall.

 

This guy is incapable of writing anything except irritating one-liners

Anyway,may I give a potted judgement-both are possibly equally effective as regards absolute security,who knows?

Both have excellent reputations.

The main difference as far as usage is concerned is that the Webroot HIPS is much '"noisier" than the OA one,in keeping with the OA philosophy of having minimum alerts. As Ohm said,its more a set and forget style.

Therefore if the 2nd computer is going to be used by a novice-would suggest OA-otherwise suggest you try both and see which is more comfortable for you.

You will notice a different style of firewall-Webroot feels more 'technical'

 

does webroot firewall have a HIPS built into it? cause i dont need a firewall with built in HIPS

 

Webroot has SPI. Does OA? Do both Webroot & OA work with Vista?

 

All I can say is try it yourself. I am using OA and like it. I was using ZA and comodo which both have a better GUI. Outpost is very nice also.

Why is a GUI so important?

Its what is underneath thats counts.

Next you'll say you dont like the color.

Once again you are only giving your own subjective opinions.You should get used to saying "In my opinion"

For example I prefer the Webroot GUI to ZA-but who cares -its really trivial.

Free Outpost is supposed to be a bit of a disaster.

Regarding Webroot ,I can only go by PrivateFirewall specs; which state it contains;

"Advanced packet filtering – Proprietary stateful packet inspection technology monitors all communication ---".

Really dont know for sure about OA vaguely remember that it doesnt,nor does it have Vista capability,which WDF has.

@Bellgamin - OA does not, sadly, support Vista yet - but we have slowly started to have a look at this.

As for SPI, I think it's been discussed before and the short answer is:

State Table - yes
Packet inspection - no.

As always, we have plans to improve in areas where we are lacking.

 

zonealarm pro is not vista compatible so i will use the free version for now

It's Vista (32 bit) compatible.

 

i did and it says only zonealaram free, zonealarm security suite and zonealarm antivirus is vista compatible.

Zonealarm pro is not
