Hmmmm.
Reading the threads here the last few days things seem to be going bad to worse with version 3 with no update on the horizon for a few days or weeks at least, i know the guys at ESET are working hard to put everything right and i have faith that they will, but meantime i dont feel secure online with V.3, should i go back to 2.7 indefinitely until i get the thumbs up from all you likewise wisedup people here. ?
Not sure what to do...at least for now.

Well, i purchased a 2 year sub for NOD32 last Nov and its good until Nov 2008
Dont really want to let it go to waste.

As for ESET, stick to them if you already got subscription. They should came up with some patches. For the meantime...try reverting back to old reliable - v2.7. Well, i have tried v2.7 and came to like it for its 'no-nonsense' feel.

 

Just wondering, but if you've switched over to Dr. Web, why do you continue to post on the ESET forums? As for me, I didn't have any problems with v. 3, but didn't see any advantage to upgrade. So I went back to 2.7. A bit lighter on my system.

 

Cause I have a license as well for Nod32 and I just can't stand the fact, that it has developed so poorly. I stay in touch regarding the eventual further development, but in the meantime, I'm not sorry about switching to Dr. Web....that's for sure.

 

Why don't you feel secure online?

It amazes me that people love 2.7 more than v3., when the important detection bits are the same. Yet my opinion is the complete opposite, 2.7 is old fashioned and damn hard to configure correctly. I have used v3 since 5 November (Either ESS or nor NOD) and have had no significant problems that would cause me to return to my previous AV. Most of the moans here are that issues that were being Beta tested were still prevelant in the released product. These same issues have not affected me or many users of v3.

Bearing in mind we are downloading the same software, the problem is with incompatable issues with the PC or installed software.

Big Apple suggestion is totally incompatable with my machine.
I could suggest my previous AV suite, which has a reasonable firewall, average virus catching but no heuristics.

I'm staying put with Nod for the reminder of my trial and will see how things progress.

Oh and don't worry about the odd viruses folk seem to get, Just means the Threat Sense is not on, so the virus gets onto the machine.

Doesnt amaze me, what with all the Outlook Express problems i have with version 3, even on a clean install XP with no extras. But apart from that it seems ok, wouldnt say i liked it more than 2.7 at all though. Not on XP.

But as you stated that the detection sections are the same maybe its best for me to keep using 2.7 until V.3 becomes more usable or worth upgrading to.
Still smells like Beta to me.

 

I dont know about you but i was expecting more than just a fancy gui.Essentially nothings improved except the alleged better cleaning abilities,which for me is secondary to detection anyway.Apparently detection is more or less the same .I honestly think version 3 just gives a placebo effect,that it must be better because its newer.In reality its the same nod dressed up like a dogs dinner.

I kind of like the new interface and scanner, beats the older version. But looks aint everything, instead of knowing which one to install, this threads made it harder i think i'll toss a coin.
Seriously though, i think when the next big update comes it'll sort out a lot of problems and i would rather install it on a sys that had V.3 on it previously rather than V.2 esp for my testing purposes. Of course i imaged my drive prior to all NOD when i reinstalled so its no biggie.

 

I guess it depends on taste and the type of computer user someone is.
I find v3 harder to configure. Takes way more clicks/mouse movement and more reading and isn't always logical.
The look seem slick but I don't really care abouts looks. Just because something looks better, doesn't mean it works better. And v3 definitely does not work better.

 

It would be a miracle if any established software could undergo anything other than a cosmetic upgrade without causing problems to some of its users.

I upgraded to V 3 antivirus when it became available and haven't had any problems. Then again, I don't use any MS software if there is an alternative, so I haven't had any OE type problems. Only a few weeks ago I recall seeing posts complaining about the 2.7 GUI (which I liked) because it was 'old fashioned' or 'confusing for newbies' etc.

I also upgraded my Comodo Firewall to V 3.0 and haven't had any problems with that either, although it's clear that many people have. Just a matter of luck and your configuration I suppose.

I am not trying to minimise the very real difficulties that some people have had, just suggesting the need for a sense of proportion. Users that haven't had problems rarely make posts in Forums like this - so I thought I would!

There's not much to choose between V2 and V3. That said, V3 has worked for me in my environment of system configuration and other existing 3rd party security programs. Hence, I'm definitely going to continue with V3.

My sympathies for the folks for whom V3 has failed to work in their given state of environment - these people would understandably want to revert back to V2. Hopefully, sharing our problems in these forums will help Eset in bettering NOD32.

 

I went back to 2.7 on Vista. 3.0 had too big an impact on browsing with Firefox to stay. For example opening www.anandtech.com would take 15-20 seconds with 3.0. Soon as I switched back to 2.7 this went back to the more usual < 1 second.

Also with heuristics enabled on 3.0 I would get a script error reported when my backup program runs. This was impossible to diagnose as no file was specified for the error. Also it would report a virus in the boot sector of the drive which contains the boot-us boot manager.

All of these issues mean for me 3.0 is not ready for use on Vista. 2.7 runs without problem with low impact on the system.

 

I myself prefer version 3 for easier configuration & faster scanning speed. The latest version has improved.

I mean...Version 3 has so many flaws and glaringly obvious bugs i dont trust it to protect me online. Not even sure its capable of doing its job properly.
My sub runs out in Nov 2008 and until then i'll stick with 2.7 which works just great.

 

I uninstalled it, it's sub par to say the least, you'd be well off looking elsewhere...
