I just downloaded FinJan and installed it to try and see how it works. I have no problem when I do a search, it shows the red checks, green checks, or the question mark. What I don't understand is when I visit a site, such as Wilder's or any other site, the Finjan icon in the status bar does nothing (see image below), does not change, makes no indication if the site is good, bad or otherwise. It is the same wheter I am in FF or IE. Am I mssing something?

I have done a search and found nothing that answers my question.

    Thanks for the help,

I presume it is there as a source for configuring and checking for an update.

    Meridoc,

So what you are saying is that while surfing FinJan gives no idication of the saftey of the site? Only when I do a search with a search engine?

    Thanks,

Finjan only scans a few sites- from a Finjan page:

"Q: What domains does the Finjan SecureBrowsing rating system support?

A: The current version of Finjan SecureBrowsing supports the following domains:

Search Engines: Google, Yahoo, Live (msn)
    Advertising systems: Google Adsense
Online email applications (AJAX-based): Gmail, Yahoo mail, Hotmail
Popular Websites: MySpace, Digg, Slashdot, Blogger "

    acr1965,

Thanks for that info. i saw that on their site and thought that they meant that those were the "search engines" that would show results. For example if I do a google search for "palm treo" it will find 2,610,000 sites and show a "green" "yellow" or "red" to rate the site. I understood also thought that they said that it checked each url for "malicious code", and then would let you know. So if I go to "wilderssecurity.com" it would let me know if it was safe or not.

So what you are saying is that it only works on searches? If so, more or less fine, I was just used to SiteAdvisor showing in the status bar the "green", "yellow" or "red" on each site that I visited.

    Have a good day,

From what I see of it, Finjan will only work in search results and on sites MySpace, Digg, Slashdot, Blogger. There are links on each of those sites and Finjan will scan them. It claims to work in email but I have not noticed it before.

A couple things I like about Finjan is that it actually scans the page for malicious code rather than relying on user ratings and Finjan does not slow down my surfing speed by checking every url I visit. This also relieves privacy concerns some people have because Finjan is not building up profiles of visited web sites to sell to some 3rd party. Also, no processes running in the background all the time- that I can tell, anyway.
