Outpost 2008

Anyone here using Outpost 2008?

i find it strange that no one is talking about it here?

From wat u know is 2008 way better than 4.0? and good firewall against Comodo 3.0 and other great firewalls?

I use it and love it. Very effective and has low resource usage. I prefer it to the free ones like online armour and comodo 3 and it works brilliantly alongside nod32 and SAS Pro.

 

is it much easier to use than other version of outpost?

more user friendly for novices?

 

I tried it and its way to secure for its own good. After installing it browsing slowed down by 100%. Went back to Comodo 3.0

 

so u would say its not as good as its to secure.

 

so not a lot of ppl really talk about this version hmm


the thing is i don't like Comodo 3.0 and i don't know which firewall i can use that is user friendly really easy to use and really good against leaktest, hackers, blocking all sort of malaware etc...

 

As long as you are trying them out, you could try ZoneAlarm Security Suite (different versions for XP and Vista; get the right one). It's not free, but it is very intuitive to configure and not overly intrusive nor resource hogging.

As for blocking malware ... Nothing replaces good old common sense. That, along with a good browser (like Firefox) and a firewall that dynamically identifies programs that access the internet, can go a long ways toward safe computing.

 

is very buggy, have a look at their support forums.. and take a trial before buying! (also backup your whole system, becuase it will most likely crash it)

 

Try it yourself.............browsing slows to a crawl and all ads are blocked.

 

Firefox with the AdBlockPlus add-on + the EasyListUSA subscription + a couple of customizations will block ads most effectively.

 

firefox with "adblock" & "filterset G updater" block all i need ad wise

 

I wont try Outpost 2008 read its not as good for me.


I have Avast Home and i am going to use either Gewall or ThreatFire. And i need a good free firewall but i don't want to use Comodo 3.0. But i am using Vista 32bit

 

Comodo 3 is great.............very light.

 

I liked Comodo 2.4 but 3.0 doesn't not work very good with Avast so i can't use it for now

Contrary to the other comments in this thread, on Win XP, I think Outpost 2008 is extremely fast, lightweight and stable. This is actually the fastest version of Outpost I have ever used.

Have used trial versions in the past but they always seemed to slow down browsing, on-line games, etc. Outpost 2008 is a complete new code rewrite. There are a few bugs, but was so impressed, I bought a copy. Below is a link on how I configured Outpost 2008 to make it work the way I wanted it to work:

OMG what are you talking about. I played with it for 2 hours and dumped it. All ads blocked. All browsing slowed down. Some sites never would even open.

I think a lot of the problems people are having with Outpost 2008 is because of the Web Control feature. This feature also handles the ad blocking. I agree and think this feature is very buggy. Agnitum definitely has some work left to do on the Web Control.

In the link attached to my original post, you will see that I disabled the Web Control feature. I have better/other alternatives to Web Control.

Anyway, I am sorry Outpost 2008 did not work out for you. I am not trying to convince you or anyone else to try it. Only sharing my experience and in the link above how I configured it to make it work for me. I thought perhaps this might be helpful to others who might have a license for or be interested in Outpost 2008.

I've tried Outpost 2008. However, I found it too bulky and inefficient.

I continue to use Outpost Firewall Pro 4. Though I wish I could view and edit every single rule which it automatically creates. Outpost Pro, eventually, replaced my Sygate firewall solution...

 

I agree. I also read the RealResults link to the OP forum. No one should have to go through all that. When I got my LifeTime License I thought I was really getting the deal of the decade.

The best version is the one I have now, which is the one I bought or the version right before it.

 

I tried it, but it was too buggy right now for me. I went back to Outpost Firewall Pro 4 and things are running smooth again. I think it will be nice when they finally get the bugs worked out.
