    Hi,

My NOD icon disappeared from the systray at some point today and opening the GUI from Start>Programs then closing the GUI still doesn't bring it back.

Right clicking on the systray, selecting Properties>Customise and selecting 'always show icon' doesn't bring the icon back either.

    NOD32 V3.0.563.0
    Comodo Firewall Pro V3

    Ditto...

Mine disappeared also, from starting my computer from cold. After a reboot the icon reappeared.

I had that problem last week, apparently you just need to reboot and it goes away.

Come to the conclusion it is an anoying bug.

Mine does tend to do the disappearing act, too - however, ekrn.exe seems to remain 'on duty' despite the exit from the systray. I suspect it's egui.exe that's playing 'Houdini.' :D

Yep, when I tried V3 AV only the icon also disappeared from the tray after a reboot. I decided to go back to 2.7 for the time being.

The icon 'disappeared' once or twice when I had 2.7 so I enabled the splash screen so that I could have visual confirmation that it had actually started up.

It has done it once more since I got V.3, but the splash screen appears every time, so I hope/assume that it's a minor glitch.

I had the same (disappearing) icon issue on one of my machines with v2.7 but it wasn't just NOD32 that wasn't appearing....it was my volume icon and some other stuff. I found the following on some web site, tried it, and now my sys tray icons appear each and every time, after a reboot or cold start, without fail.

    1. Click "Add or Remove Programs" in Control Panel.

    2. Click "Add/Remove Windows Components" in the sidebar.

    3. Scroll down to Networking Services, select it, and click the Details button.

    4. Uncheck UPnP User Interface.

UPnP is already turned off on my machine and I still have the issue. My icon doesn't even show up after I reboot. But if I go to the start menu and run "C:\Program Files\ESET\ESET NOD32 Antivirus\egui.exe" /hide /waitservice manually then my icon shows up. A pain to be sure but not fatal.

May I recommend this easier workaround ..
For whatever the reason may be egui.exe is not being started at bootup. Until such time that the problem is corrected you can force egui.exe to be started by simply creating a shortcut to egui.exe and placing it in C:\Documents and Settings\ [your user name] \ Start Menu \ Programs \ Startup

Note: As long as your egui.exe shortcut remains in the Startup Folder the NOD icon will be loaded into the sys tray.
Keep this in mind because you will never know if the problem has corrected itself without removing the shortcut and performing a reboot to find out.

However, my personal preference would be to go directly to the System Registry and see if you are missing
the registry key responsible for calling the equi.exe upon startup. If so, then restore it and you will not need to have any need for a shortcut in your Startup Folder.

Assuming that you have experience with Regedit.
    1. Create a system restore point for safety
    2. Launch Regedit and navigate to
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
    3. Right click on Run and create a new string value and rename it "egui" without the quotes.
    4. Right click on your newly created "equi" string value and select Modify so that you can edit the string value.
    5. In the "Value name" field box "equi" (without the quotes) should appear by default.
    6. In the "Value data" field box paste in the following exactly as shown including those quotation marks:
    "C:\Program Files\ESET\ESET NOD32 Antivirus\egui.exe" /hide /waitservice

    Hello all,
The same here for me... It happened sometime, with 2.7 and it is the same (once or twice untill the begining of february) with 3...

I hope that will be fixed soon. However, PC remains safe (as ekrn.exe is running)...

This can happen with other things too, but apparently NOD32's place in the starting queue places it in competition for starter tray icon placement. The app is running, but without the icon visible there's no way to access it.

A work-around solution is to delay it's running a bit. If you've got the paid version of WinPatrol or any app that permits you to delay the start of a starting app, it will take care of it for you.

I have one PC that never had the problem with 2.7 but does occasionally on version 3. I have tried clean, re-installs to no avail.

Since egui is not a service, I know that solutions like Empath suggests would probably work. But I'd like to keep my AV sepearate from other apps if possible. Like Empath, every single time the tray icon is missing, I have checked and egui is running. Just no icon!

After watching my PC boot up a few times without the icon, I noticed that the NOD32 splash seemed to display normally but the tray never made it. So, I wondered if the splash is causing some kind of delay in the tray icon's appearance. So I disabled the splash and so far, I have a tray icon every time.

I cannot guarantee this is my permanent fix but I will be watching closely...
