I have an older "sub notebook" laptop running W2k. I'm trying to back it up with the True Image boot CD. After a few minutes, the computer shuts off! How can I even begin to diagnose what's causing it?

Memtest 86+ runs find, as does HDD testing and CPU crunching tests. I tried various things on the UBCD, many of which use Linux like your boot CD, and everything works fine.

What version and build of TI are you using?

What are you backing up to (USB drive, etc.)?

Have you tried the quiet acpi=off noapic option detailed in Section II of the PLEASE READ BEFORE YOU POST thread?

    Hello all,

Thank you for choosing Acronis Disk Backup Software.

John M. Dlugosz, first of all please try the MudCrab's suggestion to run Acronis Bootable Media with acpi=off noapic parameters. If it won't work in your case please create Acronis Report and Linux system information (sysinfo.txt) as it is described in Acronis Help Post. Then submit a request for technical support. Attach all the collected files and information to your request along with the step-by-step description of the actions taken before the problem appears and the link to this thread. We will investigate the problem and try to provide you with a solution.

    Thank you.

    Best Regards,
    Alexey Bogomolov

This kept happening to me. I finally turned off the ability for the computer to sleep. Acronis never stopped during backup again. Hope this helps.

Another alternative might be to set the time-to-standby (or sleep) longer than the tme it takes ATI to make the backup. A darned annoyance but not a critical failure.

The instructions to press F-11 at the boot menu doesn't do anything on True Image version 8.0, and I can't find any documentation on this forum for anything before v.9. I know I got some kind of verbose boot once before to figure out network settings, but I don't remember the magic key sequence.

    Hello John M. Dlugosz,

Thank you for choosing Acronis Disk Backup Software.

When using Acronis True Image 8.0 or lower you should press F11 button when the "Starting Acronis Loader..." message appears.
If the acpi=off noapic doesn't help, then please follow further instructions in Alexey's post.

    Thank you.
