It is now over a month that there has been no sign of life from the developer of ProSecurity. Currently, v1.40 is at the Beta 3 stage but posts to the PS forum have remained unanswered.:(

Has PS gone the way of PG, ie, extremely able product with lots of potential on which development dries up/stops. All the current users want this product to suceed commercially but....does anyone here have any news of any kind o_O

I fear the worst as the developer of PS has in the past been one of the most responsive and communicative in the business IHMO.

    Hi Baldrick

As you have probably seen I posted a message under the title "UTTERLY DISGUSTED" in th ProSecurity forum detailing my problem and concerns with a lack of communication/assistance from the developer and sales/support of ProSecurity.

I post that message here (edited it marginally to remove e-mail addresses for security purposes) and although I make a connection with the demise of Diamond CS, a wiser head has prevailed in that ProSecurity's record of (less desirable practice) covers basically 1 month. Maybe there is an explanation but I am not confident that a simple matter such as mine could not been addressed within a short time frame. Posted message is as follows:

As a generalization, HIPS do not need updates of the frequency required by most other security software categories.

PS has a stable/release version and a beta version. The stable version runs just fine. As to the beta version, I'm not surprised that it's taking Jei so long to get out all of the bugs that arose when he hastened to make this beta attain near-total compatibility with Vista.

Vista is NOT a friendly environment for HIPS programs of PS's type. A PS-type HIPS has to grope around VERY deeply with the groin area of Windows. Vista, by design, does not make its groin area easy to grope. Despite this, PS has MORE THAN crossed the threshhold of Vista compatibility, as has SSM also.

In my half-baked, incompetent opinion -- As a 1-man operation. Jei is wise to focus his best efforts on programming instead of responding to forum comments.

Check around -- see how many HIPS are not yet Vista compatible; not even a little bit.

Check around again yet -- see how many software programmers become distant and evasive when working on complex, major major upgrades (for instance Eset, DrWeb, F-Prot).

I've seen this before. A month or so of nothing, followed by a flurry of new activity, posts by users, and responses from Jei. It seems Jei likes to sequester himself away when he's in development. I think the stable release will come and soon. For my own part, he's always been very responsive to questions when he's not in coding mode. I think this has to be expected from a one man operation, and over all, Jei's shown fairly aggressive development when you look at the entire life span of PS. Lastly, based on his enthusiasm for PS, his attitude in addressing concerns, and willingness to take suggestions, I don't think you can compare him to DiamondCS.

Whilst I appreciate what you have said and considered the same before my original post I still find it strange that there has been no comments from PS-DEV...not even a reassuring 'I am still around but very busy' and when in the past there have been absences from the sence then TECHWG has filled the gap with updates on PS_DEV's behalf...but this time nothing since 15th October.

Now don't get me wrong...I am a fully paid up user of the product and therefore have a vested interested in seeing it continue...and not just from the money paid out angle BUT BECAUSE I LIKE THE PRODUCT.

The parallel drawn with DCS was purely on the basis of the fact that that was another great product (which I bought into at a very early stage) that sadly went bye the bye. It was not in terms of PS_DEV's track record on responsiveness, user service, etc...which has been second to none.

Lets get this straight...I believe that there is a dedicated bunch of fans out there who are concerned and want to see PS_DEV suceed with his crackingly good product.

    Hi,

Often, in business world, cyber or non cyber, intermittent downpours are the fatal blows to any in-developing products.
And, more than often, taking the first million to make the first dollar, while , by the same token, one dollar sized error will wipe out million dollar sized empire, let alone midget-sized venture. Take care all.

Had an update from gxynx (Full Member & Beta Tester over at the PS Forum)

"Sorry,ps B3 had many bug, can't register is one.Can you use ps b2 or ps1.3? and PS_Dev is very busy. because he had need resolve B3 's bug.Can you wait for a little time."

which would support what bellgamin & boonie have suggested may be going on.

So we have to wait a little (hopefully) longer for the next beta, RC or even the full product release...which I for one am prepared to do (and have asked gxynx to feedback to PS_DEV if he can).

    :D

I have just posted a response to gxynx on the ProSecurity forum. Naturally as Baldrick and others have stated, I am prepared to wait until PS_DEV is free to attend to my problem. It is a pity that this news could not have been communicated earlier thus saving a lot of aggravation and perceived mistrust.

Naturally I will continue to support ProSecurity and the small band of software developers who produce outstanding products such as ProSecurity.

    Best Regards
