Just installed 3.0.563.0 and it looks that it does not contact RA server and does not update from LAN update server. Server is still running old versions. I guess it's not backwards compatible?

Please , wait till 26 Nov when the Business version will be available and this function supported . At the moment the version is Home edition , supporting protection for workstations only

I updated one workstation at the office..which was running 2.7...I installed 3.0 right on top of it..rebooted..it migrated the settings just fine and updates from my old RAS/Mirror just fine.

Remote management...logically the RAC/RAS will need to be updated so that it can create config files which are compliant with v3...as it's quite different in settings. but for now.getting the updates is what's currently important..and it works.

Are you sure? The new version doesn't support changing the server from Choose Automatically and Marcos has said that v2 updates (which the Mirror versions creates) are not compatible with v3

It does support changing, however it does not work. Ok, I'll wait. No rush.

From what I can see it's fine. I found where to treat the list of servers just like in the old version...it's hidden a few more layers deep..but it's there.

And it "migrated" the settings from the prior install of 2.7 just fine...soon as I rebooted..I found it was looking at our Mirror server just like version 2.7 did.

And..it's been since, when did they release it..mid last week? Been installed on my workstation and still showing the current date each day of the defs. All visually appears fine. //shrugs

Although I do agree with Eset splitting the "home retail" versions...from the "business" versions...as it's waaay too easy for home users to pirate current versions..and just point their updates to the many rogue update servers out there.

This is what I wanted to know also, whether Nod 3 Home Edition would have the lan update feature. I asked on this thread https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=190391
but didn't really get a clear answer.

One person who replied to my thread mentioned getting it to work by installing version 3 over the top of version 2.7 like YeOldeStonecat has mentioned. If you wanted to do a clean install or had to reinstall though this would be a problem.

HiTech_boy, you mentioned waiting until the Business Edition is released and the function supported. Do you know whether the lan update function will be available only for the Business Edition or if it will be available in the Home Edition too?

I updated one of the workstations at our Office to v 3.0 and the settings did get copied over when I installed over the top of 2.7.

However, although it can connect to the mirror server on our LAN just fine, it refuses to download the updates and just lies saying that no update is necessary.
The virus definitions are stuck on 8 November, but the other 2.7 clients on our LAN have updated to 13 November.

If I change over to updating from Eset directly then everything works fine.

I've checked the Update Server path (which points to the mirror directory path where the update.ver and nodXXX.nup files are stored) and username and password are OK.

Has something changed about the way these parameters are configured in v 3.0 or do I need to change something on the advance update setup pages (e.g. LAN or HTTP proxy settings)?

My understanding of NOD32 versions is this (please correct me if I am wrong Eset):

NOD32 3.0 antivirus (the standard or "home" edition) is the equivalent of the standard 2.7 version. It may be installed on workstations running Windows XP, 2000 or Vista and may be configured to download updates from a mirror server on the LAN or direct from the Eset servers on the Internet.
This is the same product used by Home Users.

NOD32 3.0 Business Edition will be the equivalent of NOD32 2.7 LAN Update Server. You will need this version if you want to create and run a mirror server for other workstations on the LAN to download from.
You will also need this version if you want to install NOD32 3.0 on a server operating system (e.g. Windows 2003 Server) whether or not you wish to run a mirror server.

If you want to run a Remote Administrator Server (RAS) you will need to wait for the new versions of RAS and Remote Administator Console (RAC) to be released.
Presumably this will be released at the same time as NOD32 3.0 Business Edition (26 November).

NOD32 3.0 does not seem to download updates from a NOD32 2.7 LAN Update Server. Maybe the format of the files has changed?
    (Is this true Eset?)

The guide is for Remote Administrator 1.0.15 and NOD32 2.5.

The Remote Administrator is still the current version.
    NOD32 hasn't changed that much from 2.5 to 2.7.

If you are installing NOD32 2.7 today then the guide should be reasonably accurate.

On 26 November NOD32 3.0 Business Edition is due to be released and things will change quite a bit with a completely new user interface.
I presume that Eset will also release a new version of Remote Administrator soon to manage NOD 32 3.0.

Thanks for your update. Yes, I need to install today for 50 computers in my company.

So I will continue as per this document.

Most importantly, I don't want try the initial versions of the major upgrade, so I am planing to contiue with 2.7 for another six months or so.

    Tks

The Eset manual downloadable here explains things such as setting up a mirror server and installing and using the Remote Administrator fairly well.

EnGenie, This is the kind of response I am looking for from Eset, however I am yet to hear anything so far. If what you say is true it sounds like I need the Business Edition.

My current licence for 3 computers allowed me to download the 2.7 lan update edition. I'd also like to hear from Eset whether I can update to the Business Edition for free if this version is indeed what is replacing the lan update edition. Otherwise I'd like to know why having 3 computers means you need to buy the Business Edition in order to use lan update even though you don't run a business.

More information on the NOD32 Business Edition is available here.

The 2.7 LAN edition is not able to act as a mirror server for v 3.0 clients, only 2.7 clients.

However v 3.0 Business Edition will communicate with both v 3.0 and v 2.7 clients.

Home Edition does not contain the LAN update feature.

I know that you can update from v 2.7 to v 3.0 Home Edition for free if your license is still valid.

I don't know what the policy is for updating from v 2.7 LAN Edition to v 3.0 Business Edition. I guess that the deals available will depend on the reseller.

Hopefully we should all know when Business edition is released on 26 November.
