    Hi 19Monty64,

We are trying as best we can to respond to a situation where we released a product - and have gotten swamped with queries, suggestions (and demands) for improvement or changes.

The activation one seemed like a big issue for many people, and so we took it out as quickly as we could.

As I mentioned previously, the activation/licencing and updates was pretty closely tied into the product.

When we removed activation, we've obviouslty not done it quite right with the email thing as I mentioned above. It will be resolved as soon as we can.

If I remember right, with KAV you have to activate as part of the installation procedure. Been a while.

Don't remember either, but I know I liked it. As for the FW, AV & AS, i'net access was not needed...

Actually - you can complain all you like, I have no objections whatsover to people telling me (constructively) what they think is wrong with OA, and OAFree.

Complaining got rid of activation. Suggestions added "Block all" and will get rid of more annoyances, plus add new desired features.

All in all, I don't have a problem with any constructive feedback whatsoever.

In any case it doesn't allow unknown program to start without user interaction, and it detects indirect autostarts in registry, which is very important.

    Mike,

is the "hang" problem on reboot (after installation of OA free)also one of the issues which is being dealt with in the upcomming releases or is it already fixed in the new release ?

Yes, it's being built today. It comes down to an issue for some users that have a lot of things in startup locations. This can delay the first few boots while OA sorts itself out.

Some optimisation has been done during the Safety Check Wizard to ensure we catch all of these.

It should hit testing tomorrow AM, or sooner if there's nothing good on TV :)

It's just gone to beta. It depends if people find problems with it. If you are really keen, I can PM you a link to it (or one of the folk on our beta team could, if I am asleep) (please don't share it) - but its a Beta version

Just on a slightly OT note: I'm looking for people to help us translate OA Free into different languages.

    Sorry for off-topicness...

One thing that i would like to see included in free, which is currently implemented in the buy version, is the Advanced Mode firewall.

However OA is a great software.

There is the "run safer" mode in the free version, if that helps you...

Ah, welcome to Marketing 101. Whole point of free is to entice you to buy. Part of the enticement is the advanced mode.

To Mike Nash & others working directly on OA (free):

What are the chances of getting the firewall to stop all connections to the outside during boot up and boot down??

Is there yet some tentative expected date for release of the OA free version with most all issues/complaints addressed?

Interested in trying it to see just how well it stacks up as-is.

    Thanks

    Hi Samspade

I don't know if this particular feature is on Mikes list or where it sits, but I suspect any additional features that go into OA are going to go into the paid verson. That seems only fair.

Bugs are being worked on as fast as possible. I suspect the date is as soon as possible. Hard to give a date.

The main bugbear for us to solve at the moment is that on some systems we have a sloooooow boot. This is with the beta team now, and we have the problem 50% licked. That is - after a few slow boots, it comes up like greased lightning.

The other issue is taking the registration process out completely. Give it another few days and we should be right.

    Thank You Mike.

I get a really good sense (Karma?) that this is one "New" program which is definitely going to be rushed after by the many and will quite frankly take everyone by surprise with not only it's simplicity for novice users but also in the satisfaction of just how formidable it will prove out to be.

    Great effort.

Yes, I have noticed INTERMINABLY slo-o-o-w-w-w-w boots. When you fix this will it be for both paid and free?

Also, what about shutting off connections during boots (up and down)? Comodo has this feature.

    Oh yes. Definitely.

Connection off during boots will be longer.
