    Hi Mike,

I wondered why Stem used the quotes. Maybe some secret wake-up call? :cautious:

    I'm sure it isn't necessary.

    Cheers

Off topic - but your signature reminds me of the classic "If I ever were to become an evil overlord" :)

    I didn't say that! It's a "real" quote.;)

Maybe I should change it? Didn't Einstein say "Don't worry - you're not the only stupid person"?:D

Yes. I think Groucho Marx used that quote on the the game show he hosted, "You Bet Your Life."

Thanx for the "help-file" as it has proven helpful "Mike" lol and I keep an eye on OA-forum for updates for it. Just a question of curiousity not necessity, will the completed help-files be included with a future installero_O Just curiousity-not feature request...
When someone asks if Mike has posted, the natural response is "which Mike?"
When someone asks if "Mike" has posted, all know who "Mike" is...

    :D

I'll include the help file in the new installer when I get some more changes made to it. There's a bit to go yet.

I've a feeling the "Mike" thing is going to stick...

This reminds me - my ex-wife said in a pub after work, in front of all my friends and workmates that I have "a puppy dog nose". To this day I still answer the phone and get called dog boy, bad dog, or worse...

Don't worry "Mike" your secret is safe with me! Do you use "Puppy Linux" by chanceo_O (sry, couldn't resist) Thanx for the help-files. That, the feature requests, compatability-issues and the leak-tests must be keeping you extremely busy these days. Hope you haven't biten off more than you can chew!

Just think - if you knew how to use OA, you could help me write the updated help file :D

Hi Mike, (look Mom, no quotes!)

This is a sort of hen/egg situation. I would love to help here. It would be interesting to find out, if OA could replace my present, excellent firewall. The behavior control in OA looks good, but I'm not so sure about the firewall part.

Installing a new and unknown and undocumented firewall would require a separate test machine and maybe a spare room (feel free to step in with some $$ here!).

I hope that I can switch to OA soon. The free version is close to satisfying my needs, but I want a few advanced firewall features, which are only available in the paid version, I'm afraid, and there is no way to tell. No help file!

The only way I can help is by telling you to complete the help file.:D Whenever you get a new question, write the answer in the help file and release it immediately. You will save a lot of time in the end, and get some more customers.

    Cheers

There is a free 30day trial of the full paid version. It goes on easy, and actually comes off fairly easy.

    Hi Escalader,

I can easily understand why you and Mike want to keep this discussion out of the public domain, but it does reveal a lot of useful information about OA (which I would prefer to read in the help file, by the way). I suppose this is one of the costs of owning a very popular thread. :)

Another one being everyone disagreeing with your observations. ;)

So I cannot say that I agree with Stem, and I hate whitelists and trusted Windows processes? Won't do that, then. :D

    Keep up the good work.

No, you're not! You're checking the forums - again.

The big advantage of the help file is that we can all disagree with you - not only Stem. :D

I blame the email notifications :D

One thing Stem and I definitely agree on - writing a help file is hard work.

You know, of course that OA does actually contain a help file, right? I just went to update it (about hosts) and found it already contained the information requested...

The currently available help file is here:

    http://dl1.online-armor.com/downloads/oa_ena.chm

If you have serious comments about what is missing and what you would like to see in it (after looking at it!) you could make them here:

    http://support.online-armor.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1822

Sorry - but seems almost every post you make says OA doesnt have a help file :( It does and I am trying to improve it.

    Hi Mike,

I'm not sure that we're allowed to disagree about anything in this thread, but anyway...

The help file is still dated october 28, and I read it when it was released, and it is quite incomplete.

One can only make relevant comments to a help file by actually running the program, and I'm not going to do that, until I have a good help file. This I do with other firewalls, and I do it with OA. Back to the hen/egg situation. ;)

Keep up the good work. :)

What's missing for you? To say it is quite incomplete means you must know what you would like to see there

Re: Hints on using Online Armor FW-a Learning Thread 4

    Some sections are missing.

The rest is mainly screen shots, missing a lot of text about how to do this and that, and very important: the complex relations and limitations between settings - a good source for mistakes and bugs. You must have written hundreds of excellent and complicated explanations about what it does and doesn't do, in posts here and there. Put those explanations in the help file - not very complex, can be done by a secretary.

Clearly flag those features and settings that are only available in the paid version.

What's your invoicing address? Do you have a Danish office? ;)

As a novice interested in learning, I would suggest that Mike look at Blackspears tutorial for NOD32 advanced settings.
A lot of work but it makes setting up the product easy for those that don't have a clue.
Combining it with a Help file would probably make a lot of people happy.
I just can't be the only novice looking to learn. And if I am, don't tell me.
