the desktop.... this systems was a nod32 one prior to this. avira found a total a 4 files it marked as either a virus or a trojan. i searched online for them by name and they are in fact known ones out there.

so why did nod miss them. could they be fp's? the name given by avira as i said was able to be found online as an actual trojan?? how can i be sure, im debating really i think between nod and avira at this point due to them being the lightest i have found so far in a suite form. i like eset's firewall better though and have been a nod user for nearly 4 years.

but if it really did miss these and they are legit it makes me a bit worried about going back to nod?? lmk what i can do with them i made a copy to quarantine and had them deleted. thanks

The infection may have happened after Nod and before AntiVir, while testing other security softwares perhaps. No AV will catch them all...

If I were you I'd do another scan with Avira and Kaspersky (online scanner) just to make sure that what was quarantined and deleted is really gone.

I also think that whether you choose Nod or Avira, and you rely on them alone you will get infected, it's only a matter of time and surfing habits. A sandbox / HIPS (if you know what you are doing)/ recovery programs/ image programs/ are absolutely necessary if you don't want to end up with a Hijack This log.

i did a scan with kaspersky and avira and neither one show any of them now. i also checked where each file was and they are now missing. im just suprised that nod missed 5 files picked up by 10 or more others according to the virus total web site.

Yeah, that is what ran me away from them for good, that and ESS just locks my PC everytime I install it. The suite is good in some areas but detection and thatb buggy firewall are going to be the issues.

I tried Nod32 when I rebuilt my PC (waiting for Trend to resend the activation code) and it found one Trojan, which in turn, turned out to be Trymedia activation key for rFactor.
I downloaded the Avira PersonnelEdition Classic today and very pleasent use of the on demand scanner. Had no problems and when using the ericom (think that is right) virus tester it spotted it before downloading, where as with PC cillian the files got qurantined after they hit the computer.
