We've only ever received ONE email from you in the history of this company Greg ... not "in the last week", but YESTERDAY ... and Makalita replied to it a few hours later . . . . .

[Private email contents removed as per TOS - Blue

The mailout we sent you and all other NOD32 users licensed with ESET Australia ended with "Please do not email us with requests for more information ... there's nothing more we can tell you at this time. Contact your NOD32 reseller (or check our website) in a few days for further information on how to upgrade."

What it says is what it means ... replies to that mailout are automatically trashcanned.

It's not just the re-direction itself which is annoying - many sites do this. The problem really arises if the country specific site to which you are forcibly sent, is in a language which you don't fully understand!
In my case, I am English, but live in Spain, so if I try to buy direct I am presented with a page in Spanish. Now, I do speak a little Spanish, but nothing like enough to translate technical terms and we all know how unreliable on-line translation services are, don't we?

The Internet has made the world a very small place. Conversely, many thousands of non-English speakers living in English-speaking countries are faced with the same problem.

Well rodzilla, that is very funny. You certainly have one of my emails there, and it certainly looks like it has been replied to, but I don't have any such email received, and I have just logged onto my ISP's spam filter, and it is not there either. So no, I nor my ISP have actually received a response from Eset on that matter, nor have I received one for the other matter regarding the upgrade route. But if you wish to call me a liar, that is your choice, and not something that I will bother wasting time to argue about on a public forum. I know for a FACT that I sent two emails, yes one on the 2nd (which I did not get a response to except through this forum), and another on the 30/11 regarding an upgrade route.

Secondly, the response that has been posted on this forum is irrelevant. It costs money to ship/freight alcohol, not to mention import taxes/tariffs placed on such goods by a government, and it costs money to transport luxury cars by shipping them, and many such luxury cars are no more luxury than the impression placed on them in the particular country that they are sold, and are priced based on the value that can be fetched for them through demand. Fact is, Eset provide software, digitally distributed over the internet! This warrant's no additional cost to a customer, unlike the examples given in the email posted by you which I did no receive. If a US citizen can get Nod for a specific price, I should be able to as well.

In fact, I have just bought Kaspersky AV, in US dollars, with no redirection to an Aus distributer, no additional cost, and in turn a very much cheaper price than what NOD was going to cost me to buy through Eset's method of sale. So, you are right, it is my money and my choice, and I don't care if it is 6 cents a day, or $6 a day, I look after my dollars, as I am not rich, and the principle Eset is practicing is not correct nor fair. The same thing applies to Eset, it's your loss, you decision, and in this case, Eset have lost. That is business.

    Cheers Greg

Rodzilla, I definitely have not received any email from Eset. I can 100% guarantee that. Have looked everywhere reasonable for it, and it seems you are the only one privileged to emails addressed to me. So, not sure who or where you are getting your info from?

Rogervernon, it seems critisism, constructive as it may be, is not allowed. I will not bother any more, and I suggest that you don't either. In circumstances like this, it is better to walk away, and take your money, hard earned as it is, to vendors who do not take us for monkeys.

    Cheers Greg

Only Eset's site (eset.com) redirects. If you purchase from a reseller, there is no IP based redirection. Find an english speaking reseller and purchase (UK/Ireland/USA etc). The very concept if IP based redirection is seriously flawed, as many multi-national ISPs don't publicly make available the fact that some of their IP blocks are split across several nations (1&1 does this in hosting I know for a fact - AT&T and other large companies do it too).

I phoned the UK ESET people on Thursday 1st Nov. 2007 regards pricing for the new versions of NOD32 & ESS. the man in Sales to whom I spoke to said he was expecting the prices to come from ESET Australia that afternoon so he could not advise me, I mentioned the prices I had been given by a friend in a USA forum, he said UK prices were always higher.

I've just been to a USA dealer & pre-ordered a 2 year licence for ESS for $75, with exactly 1 year to go on my existing NOD32 licence I'll have a licence for 3 years.
The UK charge is $20 higher, or £10 Sterling. some difference.

Due to my circumstances I have to shop around for reasonable prices. The UK charges are always higher.

From the UK website, exactly as it is worded
    :-
The suggested retail price for ESET Smart Security is £44.99 (inc VAT) for individual users, which includes a one year subscription to all updates to the product, including new versions.

ESET Smart Security Business Edition, which includes ESET’s Remote Administrator to enable the product to be deployed and managed remotely from a central location, is available for a suggested retail price of £26.16 (5-10 seats, per seat, ex VAT), which includes a one year subscription to all updates to the product, including new versions.

ESET NOD32 Antivirus V3.0 is £29.99 for individual users which includes a one year subscription to all updates to the product, including new versions. ESET NOD32 Antivirus V3.0 Business Edition is available for a suggested retail price of £21.05 (5-10 seats, per seat, ex VAT), which includes a one year subscription to all updates to the product, including new versions.

Wow. If this is ESet 'support' I'm gone. I've used NOD32 for years and just renewed a 2 yr license. May be my last renewal.

    To Eset.

To make a long story short...If I cannot extend my licenses or purchase the upgrades on the website/country of my liking ... I'm not extending or upgrading at all.

    Hasta la vista.

Here in the Philippines, you pay about 3000 Pesos ~ $71 for Nod32 2.7.
This is FAR overpriced. I also tried to purchase from the US website, but I was ALWAYS redirected to this Valueline reseller, which does not even know the product they are selling (as I could see how many questions they asked here...).
This 3000 Pesos is 1/2 of the overall monthly salary of a worker here. No wonder nobody here purchase Nod32.

Well, I am glad I am not the only one with a problem regarding Eset's method of distribution and pricing. Not to mention the arrogance of the response I got from rodzilla, and the lack of any official reply to my email to Eset support (I still have not received an email BTW).

Using Kaspersky AV right now, and actually am happy this has happened, as Kaspersky's product is as good, if not better than Nod, and a darn sight cheaper than if I purchased it from the reseller that Eset insist on redirecting me to. I have 4 other systems (Partners, Mother in laws, Fathers and sister in laws) to eventually change over as a result of this once their license expires. But, Eset won't care, as their take on the matter is as quoted from Rodzilla:

    Quote:
The mailout we sent you and all other NOD32 users licensed with ESET Australia ended with "Please do not email us with requests for more information ... there's nothing more we can tell you at this time. Contact your NOD32 reseller (or check our website) in a few days for further information on how to upgrade."

What it says is what it means ... replies to that mailout are automatically trashcanned.
    End Quote.

    Say's it all really!

    Cheers Greg

    Same here...
My licenses expire somewhere early next year and I was looking for 10 licenses and upgrades as now also my nephews become pc owners.

It looks like Eset did not come to an age yet where one understands that 10 times nothing is still a lot less than 10 times something...

I was surfing to the Kaspersky site http://www.kaspersky.com/switch which offers me

2 year license KAV (anti virus) for $44,8 (32 euros)
2 year license KIS (internet security) for $67,2 (48 euros)

The ESET Reseller I am forwarded to http://shop.mgk.lu/index.php?cPath=2_21_25&osCsid=89c7276047dea4f5661c2aecb96ba94a offers me a

2 year Nod32 AV license for 84,53 euro
2 year Nod32 AV license upgrade for 62,1 euros

hold on... more for less...or less for moreo_O

I can upgrade to KIS for only 48 euros (for 2 years)
    or
I can stay with Nod32 (only anti virus) for only 62 euros (also for 2 years)

hmmmm.... what d'you think I'll do?

ESET the ball is in your camp.

    Kind regards
    Itsme

I have 1 year and 16 days remaining on my NOD32 2 year subscription.

    I am in the UK.
I went to Betterantivirus.com on Saturday 3rd Nov.and pre-ordered a 2 year subscription to ESS with no problems. Later I thought about my existing subscription, what is the situation of it, is it extended or not.

I emailed them on Saturday evening and I got a reply earlier today at 09.04 USA time in the USA = & on a Sunday at that. good service or what..

The gentleman assured me that my existing subscription will be added on to the new 2 year sub. taking it to 3 years. Who is a happy bunny now.

I'm looking at upgrading my 2.7 to ESS and can migrate my existing licence for £13.23 inc. VAT. So that's not so bad.

I phoned ESET on Thursday last week asking about the prices, the man in sales said the UK price is always higher than anywhere else, and that is borne out by all the higher prices we have to pay.

did you note the price to buy ESS. £44 and for 1 year.

If you have an existing NOD32 2.7 licence you can download ESS and use it free for the duration of your existing licence. That is in the USA & australia. however, the UK may try to get a few bob out of you.

why not do as others did, go to the USA site and order a licence to upgrade for 1 or 2 years and it will be added on to your existing licence, $75 (£36), for £36 you get all that.

It is in an email from ESET AU that you migrate for free.

True but is it worth it?? Looking at all the bug reports on here I'm not sure.

I've taken the advice given here and ordered it. The download link they sent me is only for 2.7!!! The price worked out at £20.20 so it's a good deal.
