    Hi there,

My subscription for Nod 2.7 runs out in a couple of days, so good timing to upgrade to the newer version. Currently I have:
    Nod32 2.7
Zonealarm IS (with AV disabled, only using firewall and AS)
And I run system safety monitor.

    OS is Vista ultimate.

My question is, would I be better off just upgrading to V3 Nod AV only, or should I upgrade to Nod Smart Security instead? Will Smart Security conflict in any way with ZA, and can the firewall in Smart security be disabled? Is it worth getting Smart Security for the Antispyware/AntiSpam features on top, or is this a bit of over kill for me considering ZA already has a antispyware feature in it?

I have used Zonealarm firewall for a hell of a long time, and am happy with it, and don't have initially the same confidence in Eset's firewall implementation until it is a bit more tried and tested if you know what I mean, hence the reason I won't ditch ZA for now completely. But at the same time, I have also used Nod for many years too, as purely an AV product, and to date had no real issues with it.

    Any advice appreciated.

    Cheers

If you wanna continue using ZA as a firewall, I see no point in purchasing ESS.
The AV alone will do just fine.

So the Antispyware/Antispam feature of ESS is not worth it? Also, say I did buy ESS, can the firewall portion of the program be disabled with no loss of function to the rest of ESS?

    Thanks

ESET Antivirus v3 has Antivirus , Antispyware , Antimalware
ESET Smart Security has Antivirus , Antispyware , Antimalware , Personal Firewall , Anti-SPAM.

NOD32 v2 has antispyware , too . Unfortunately , I personally am not aware if the Commercial release supports the option to have the suite installed without a component (e.g. install without firewall) . The current public RC1 does not support this but if the final support it , you can get ESS and install it without the firewall and use ZA . If you install ESS , keep ZA but just disable the firewall , you are very likely to have a conflict between them because of the drivers/services

Speaking of suites, ESS is tightly integrated and could offer in some situations more protection than any third party FW added to pure ESET AV.

    Hi mrtwolman!

Not that I don't trust you but can somebody create videos showing ESS in action demonstrating some feautures (e.g. its AntiStealth in action or the new function in the firewall that monitors the modification of exes

    Video like this one :

    Thanks for the info :)

My main concern is using a new firewall, and in reality one that has not been around for long. ZA has always been a good firewall, and ranks up there with some of the better ones (unless I am missing something?). I have also read reports of people having trouble with the eset firewall, and it being disabled randomly etc... so was wanting to be a bit cautious initially, and possibly down the track in the future, once the main release is out for a while, switch over to the Nod suite for firewalling as well. My problem is I can't hold off for long, due to the fact that my 2.7 version is about to lapse and I need to buy a new license.

    Cheers Greg
