    Hi,

Depends on what you choose to log in Options/Firewall tabs.
There is not yet a graphical interface to show the log : you have to edit them with a text editor (you can find logs in \Tall Emu\Online Armor\Logs\

Just installed it no problems. It is light and works great from what I have seen so far. Only thing I do not like is that you have to be connected to the internet while installing it. In my opinion the developers were not to bright. If you connect to the internet without any firewall protection you could get infected and get infected fast. Have seen computers get infected in a minute or 2 just cause they did not have a firewall installed. Not sure if I would recommend this firewall till that is changed.

Wouldn't Windows Firewall be all right until it's down loaded and installed? This is what I did and all I had to do later was turn the Windows one off.

Thats not a problem for Kerio 2.15

Call me crazy, but i kept K 2.15 running while installing OA with zilch issue. Even run them both together for good measure for awhile. I don't take chances when the internet is a hornet's nest abuzz with everything under the sun floating around. ;)

If you happen to be behind a hardware firewall/router you have nothing to worry about. I ran a test PC for almost a year with no firewall other than the router and it never got infected.

From what I've heard you can't do that with the ZA free which is what I have at the moment. I guess windows firewall would suffice for a short bit while getting OA up and running. I'm thinking of getting OA free here sometime, but I first must learn that incredibly complicated ZA uninstall procedure.

    Hmm.

We assumed that most users would have the windows firewall. This runs fine with OA, and you can turn it off after OA is installed correctly.

If your system is updated properly with the latest patches, a few minutes w/o a firewall should present no problems. My brother in law ran w/o a firewall for a couple of years, no problem.

No, that's not true. OA Free is fully functional - you can create or modify rules however you want. It's not a "fake free" program, it's really free and really works.

OA's firewall is designed to be as easy to use for beginners as possible. With that in mind, we have no alerting on blocking an inbound connections, although there is a variable level of logging you can choose.

    Why no inbound alerts?

If the firewall blocks a connection from the outside, it's doing it's job. Now, let's take the average user who just wants their computer to work... What possible good is "Online Armor blocked an inbound connection from x.x.x.x on port z" going to do them? At best they'll ignore it - or get worried by it (when it's working properly) - or panic and turn it off.

Good deal then. I just couldn't locate at the time the settings to make that switch.

Like i said already, the HIPS part is potent, as a power user i applaud that, the firewall in tandem just adds icing on the cake.

I'll have to delve into it some more and tweak to my preferences with whats available, but it is amazingly stable and has quick reflexes. A well thought out design. LoL

If if if lol. If we was perfect we would have no problems or anything. Big if. Not everyone is behind a router.

Lots of thing should not happen but does lol. Yes I agree with that but having a firewall install before you get on the internet is still the best and safest thing to do.

Assumptions are bad. What about operating systems that do not have a built in firewall. Does OA support Windows XP with no service packs? Not up to date on Windows 2000 but as I remember it does not have a built in firewall not sure if any services packs included one either.

This is the only firewall that I have seen that you have to be unprotected to install it. Dont get me wrong I like it and happy with it just need to change that one little thing.

Is the final release of OA free out yet? I didn't want to install it until it was out of beta...

You're right, not everyone is behind a router; it was not an assumption, it was simply a comment. However, IF you are so concerned about security and protection against infection, then the cost of a hardware firewall/router (you can get one for around $40) is a small price to pay. IMO

I personally would never rely strictly on a software firewall to protect my computers against intrusion or malware. However, that is only my personal position and is not meant to imply that you or anyone else feels the same.

This version of OA Free finally works on my computer, but I had trouble installing Sandboxie. SB crashed during the halfway mark. I disabled OA and I was able to download SB w/out any problems. I fired up OA and SB crashed when I tried to use IE while using it. Anyone else having trouble with the latest SB 3.02 while using OA? Does GeSWall Free or BufferZone have the same problems?

I never said you assumed anything that was to someone else. And not everyone can get a router like 56k users. And the routers you can find for them cost a lot and hard to find.

Like i said, if you're that concerned, and i would be, just install (takes only seconds) Kerio 2.15 then go on and install OnlineArmor normally as if you had no firewall. Kerio 2.15 defaults are plenty to keep those few moments monitored while your installing OA.

In fact i run BOTH and let them run a very long while together with absolutely no ill effects whatsoever. XP Pro SP1 here.

Mike, I keep getting an explorer.exe crash every so often. Then another that said data execution prevention needed shutdown also. Winxp sp2, HP media center edition on this PC. The shell kept stopping unexpectedly and restarting. Here is one log file that was generated with event. If other event log info is needed I still have that too.

Event is really long (Not whats in the text file at moment). Couldn't register at Tall emu forums cause I guess yahoo and hotmail are banned. Only using web mail atm. :)
