Hmm. It was the HIPS part in OA paid that was causing the problem (see http://support.online-armor.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1649) so maybe the HIPS in OA free is not as good, which would be a shame because it's the HIPS part I'm most interested in - and would pay for.

It may be anything :) Actually, free version doesn't have winsock hooks and this can be the main reason. Other reason can be just a different software setup.

I did enter an email address, twice - with the same issue on both occasions and with an active internet connection. Thats the point I am trying to make... I will investigate further - maybe Im missing something obvious. :D

    Rickster,
I had this issue earlier this morning. The installer hung on activation.
On the third try I did get past the trouble and was able to copy and paste the license from e-mail.I got an error after that, but OA free did install.

FWIW,I like this latest build better.
Opera and FF surf smoother than with the previous version.

I had the same problem on a clean OAfree install. I thought it should activate fine without providing email since it is suppose to be optional. but from an upgrade, a machine where I installed the first prerelease, no activation problem.
I think there are still things to be ironed out for this activation thing. IMO, online activation for a firewall doesn't make much sense, especially for a free one. I don't mind activation, maybe email activation, like in avast, make more sense. personally, that's what I feel about it but, overall, OA free is an excellent product.

The HIPS part is indentical between OA2 and OA2 Free - if GigaNews works well with OAFree, it should work with OA2. The only difference really will be that in the full version, we have some usermode hooks for web shield.

PS> (sorry, I have not gotten someone onto that just yet, we had a few issues to solve this week) -

When I had it spelled correctly (from Australian/British English perspective) I'd get 2-3 emails a day from American clients telling me (sometimes not too kindly) that I didn't know how to spell "Armor". I just decided it would be less hassle to go with the US spelling :)

I tried OA free again tonight with no luck. I couldn't get past the wizard. I allowed all the startup items and when I clicked NEXT they showed up again for me to make a decision. It looks as if I would be in a neverending circle trying to complete the wizard.

Sorry to ask - are you sure that you didnt allow the startups, and then get presented with the programs (ie. the start menu items)?

    Hi Everyone,

Thanks for installing, playing with and generally trying out Online Armor Free.

If you are having problems with Online Armor and you would like them solved, we're happy to have you over at our forum for one to one support... we have a logging version which we can use, and we can work with you to solve all problems (at least, in theory!).

Most users seem to have had no problems; if you have been impacted by some problem we'll work with you until it's solved.

    Cheers

    Mike

I am not sure I think it was the same items. I will try again I have not had any luck so far with the program. I tried it on another computer and it locked up. You emailed me a reference to another version. Could you post it on this forum and I will try it.

I just reinstalled OA and went through the wizard, rebooted and all the start menu was yellow. I allowed them again and rebooted. They all came up yellow again. There seems to be no way to mark them ALLOW and the program save the settings.

Yes, I have already seen some Wilders' members there. The only problem I have with the OA-forum is why it says it's :52 past the hour when it's really :35 past the hour? Not a complaint...just an observation.

The Cdn. province of Newfoundland has a 1/2 hr. time zone, so when it's 10:00 on the coast it's 10:30 on the islando_O I thought you had maybe formed your own OA time zone. Does that make you always early or always late? :cautious: :shifty: o_O

I downloaded 2.1.0.18 from web site and everything seems to be working fine. I like the looks of the program at this time.

Just like to pass along my own sincere appreciation for releasing a free, as i see it, evaluation version of encouragement to eventually go FULL paid should everything meet with expectations.

With no useful replies to add which would be of any real significance during that time, i have been quietly lurking this thread and installed OnlineA (f) this afternoon.

My very early initial observations and results with it is that its a very well fashioned product. Especially useful for the end user is the way you have integrated program monitoring in tandem with the firewall, which i also must add is a relief to find it not only well balanced and stable, (at least on my XP Pro) but no apparent conflicts with EQSecure and other apps.

At this early point in time i'm very impressed with it overall. I want to toss some malware tests it's way, and even though the free version carries some limitations, i'm sure enough thought is gone into keeping it as useful as reasonably possible given it's position in your group's plan.

Thanks Mike for hovering over this thread daily and sometimes hours, you remind me of me in the way you tend to occasionally throw all caution aside and engage in a night into day, back into night marathon vigil to help users get a better grasp at this newest improvement.

    Regards & All The Best:

    EASTER

ps: Quite a steady program as-is right out of the box. I can at this point only imagine the even better protections in the Main model.

Maybe Mike will tell us if there is any difference between that version and 2.1.0.17. I wouldn't want do another overinstall unless there is something different in what is apparently a newer version.
