Mustang, what you suggested is exactly what is in step 9, and I followed it before, and did it again. I came up with the same results, "bcd is not recognized, etc, etc."

Maybe you didn't put the BCD folder in the root of your C drive. Here are two screenshots of how it should look. If you put the BCD folder elsewhere, just point the cd command in step 9 to the correct location. Enter dir and make sure you can see BCD.cmd. Then enter BCD wxphome.

    Mustang,
I just downloaded the Beginner's Guide and True Image 9 plugin. I managed to create a bootable CD after three tries. I booted with the new CD and True Image worked for a verification of an existing backup and the creation and verification of a new backup. I then tried the CD on my other machine and got the error message:
"Failed to execute the task script Error#1355, the specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted"

I got this message whenever I tried to verify or create a backup. I didn't try anything else. I then went back to the first machine and got (and keep getting) the same error message.
Anyone have any ideas on what might be causing this? The backup files are located on a separate partition on the same physical drive. The newly created file verifies good with True Image running normally in Windows.

    Thanks for any help.

It looks like you downloaded the plugin for True Image Home 9 Builds Below 2337. Would you please confirm this and tell me what version of True Image 9 is installed on your computer. Look at Help - About True Image to get the build number.

If I read your post correctly, you say you used the plugin with BartPE on computer number 1 and it worked fine. Later you came back to the very same computer and it gives an error message. I don't see how that can be, unless the CD has become damaged. You said you made three tries. Did you make more than one CD? Are you sure you used the same CD that previously worked on computer number 1?

Do you see a file called MkDirProfiles.inf in the plugin folder? Is it enabled? Double click the file and make sure you see Enabled=1 in the file.

After you get the error message, open the A43 Files Management utility from the BartPE menu and look under B:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Acronis\TrueImage\Scripts. If you see a script file on the right side, double click it and see if the task runs.

Answer all these questions and we'll try to figure out what happened.

I have version #2323. I'm pretty sure that I used the same disk on both computers as I threw the others in the trash. Not 100% sure though, as I'm making a lot of dumb errors lately. Enabled=1 in the MkDirProfiles.inf file. I ran the script (it was under Default User) and it said something about the operation being terminated because of a corrupt image file and the operation was terminated with errors.
I've had a lot of corrupt image files lately. I upgraded to TI9 at the same time that I built a new computer. I originally overclocked my machine to 3 Ghz but had so many problems with TI9 that I slowed it back to 2.8 Ghz. TI9 is the only program that gave me any problems but slowing it down lets it run without any errors.

Thanks for the quick reply and for taking the time working on this problem.

    jsdad,

You may want to consider updating TI 9 to at least build 3,677. The earlier builds were quite buggy from what I've read. You will then need the later BartPE plugin version, though.

Thanks for answering my questions. The early builds of TI 9 have a very bad problem with corrupt images. They were being falsely reported as being corrupt. I strongly recommend you log into your Acronis account and download a later version. Build 3854 is the latest. If you click the link that is called Full history of changes, you will be able to choose between builds 3666, 3677 and 3854. This should help greatly with the corrupt image issue.

Finding the script under Default User instead of All Users is probably why you are getting the error message. I would suggest you upgrade to build 3677 and try again. I'll send you an email with the plugin for builds 3625 and above attached. You would then delete the TI plugin folder from \pebuilder\plugins and use the newer plugin. Build another CD and see if the error message problem is solved.

I downloaded and installed Build 3854 and also created another disk with the new plugin for builds 3625 and up. I receive the same error message where the domain does not exist.
Now the weird part... I can get it to run if I execute programs in the TrueImage directory (e.g. AcronisTITray.exe, TrueImageMonitor.exe, etc.) until I get the error messages "Error Installation Failed" along with "Error: An instance of AcronisTITray.exe is already running". Once I get the "Installation Failed" message, TI willl let me create and verify images with no problem.
I must be making an error creating the disk. I'll go over the instructions again and see if I'm missing something.

Thanks for the additional information. I know what the problem is. I bet you have the Startup Group plugin disabled. You need to enable it. Run pebuilder.exe. Hit the Plugins button. Scroll down to the Startup Group plugin and hit the Enable/Disable button. Make sure it says Yes next to Startup Group. Rebuild your CD and it should all work as expected.

The Startup Group plugin was enabled, although I'm sure that is wasn't starting up properly.
I was making an error creating the disk. I looked at the instructions again and found that I did not have the Custom line blank (step 7, Building the BartPE CD). I inadvertently put in "c:\pebuilder3110a". I created another disk with that line blank and it works in both of my machines. Hooray!

Many thanks for all the time you put into this "Operator error" problem. I'm amazed at your willingness to help the 'helpless'.

    Ping Mustang... "Folder" or "Contents"...?

    Hi Mustang,

I am working on the BartPE build, and came upon a line for which I need a bit of clarifiaction:

Item #5 of the Guide says:

"5. Now copy the entire I386 folder (all files and sub-folders) from your hard drive or recovery CD to C:\BCD\cds\wxphome\files or C:\BCD\cds\wxppro\files depending on which system you have. "

But it is not clear to me if I should copy the I386 folder, or its contents...

Thanks for any assistance (and for the really great work of putting this Guide and the associated tools together...)

    Kenneth

    Hi again,

OK...OK... I would know the answer to my question if I had looked at the tree screenshot just below the instruction.

    My apologies, and my thanks,

    Kenneth

Re: Ping Mustang... "Folder" or "Contents"...?

    Hi again,

I just ran the command "xpsp2_en_x86.exe -s:c:\BCD\cds\wxppro\files" and it seemed to extract properly, but...

When the extraction concluded, I got this error:

"This Service Pack cannot be integrated into a destination that also has integrated software updates."

This is a Dell box... Might that be the issue?

Either way, how should I proceed?

    Sincere thanks,

    Kenneth

Check to see if your I386 folder already has Service Pack 2 integrated. Look in the folder for a file called SP2.CAB. If you see this file, just skip ahead to step 9.

Make sure you include the FixDell plugin with your BartPE build.

    Hi Mustang,

Yup... SP2.cab is there... So, step 9 is next, but...

Can you help me to understand where it came from?

    Sincere thanks,

    Kenneth

Yes. Dell put it there before they delivered your PC.

Ping Mustang... ISO file for DVD...?

    Hi Mustang,

I am stuck at the point of burning my WinXP installation CD…

Each time I ran the process, I got errors that I could not correctly interpret. Then, I found a way to save the ISO file, and thought it would be easy to just burn it “manually” using Nero Burning ROM.

But when I tried that, I got an error:

“Sorry, your compilation cannot be written in this kind of disc. Please insert a disc of the correct type or modify the settings of your compilation to make it compatible with the current disc.”

It then continues to tell me that it needs a DVD so that it can burn the ISO…

I have tried this a number of different ways, but each time, for some reason, the burning attempt thinks that the ISO is for a DVD.

    How should I proceed?

    Sincere thanks,

    Kenneth

Re: Ping Mustang... ISO file for DVD...?

    Hi Kenneth,

The ISO got too big because Dell included Windows Updates, that came after SP2, in the I386 folder.

No, it's not so easy to burn the ISO to DVD. I use two programs to do this. First, I extract the contents of the ISO using UltaIso. Then I use Nero to manually burn a DVD. Nero is tricky and you need the correct settings and knowledge of the boot file to include. At some point I will try to write up a supplement to the Guide with these instructions. I'll make it a separate free page so as to not make the Guide too long and overly complicated.

    Hi Tom,

Thanks for this nice free program. I'll include it in the Guide. That will keep it simple for everyone.

    Greetings,

I just made a BartPE boot disc with the Acronis10 plug-in, as per Mustang's guide. However, when I boot my system with it, I get a blue screen lock up.

    Help?

The computer involved is a Shuttle SS31T barebones system, utilizing the onboard SATA controller and SATA hard drive.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

You haven't provided enough information for me to have any idea what is wrong. Do you get any message on the BSOD? Do you have a Windows CD or did you have to make one from an I386 folder? Was it a Dell I386 folder?

    Here are some suggestions:

    1. Remove the TI 10 plugin and the z_UpperFilters plugin it created.

    2. Remove any drivers you supplied.

Make the BartPE CD without the above and see if it boots. This will help you narrow down the problem.
