What do I have to do to get rid of the yellow?

Other than create a scheduled backup, that is.

I find it exceedingly irritating, every time I start TI11, to be greeted with the enormous yellow band stating:

    System State: Warning
No Backups have been scheduled yet
    Result: Have no backup
    Backup tasks: Not scheduled

And even on the following screens there is a smaller, bright yellow nag.

Why is Acronis trying to nag me into submission and schedule backup tasks? I have manual tasks created and would like to be responsible for running them myself.Acronis, pleasae give us a way to permanently dismiss this messaging. Even Microsoft lets us disable warnings related to Firewall, Automatic Updates and Antivirus services being disabled.

    Anyone else annoyed by this?

That's more than annoying, but this is a family friendly forum. :)

If this is true, and if there is no way to stop this message, it's a major blunder by Acronis in TI 11.

I prefer to do manual backups to fit my personal schedule rather than ones scheduled by the clock.

Not only do you have to schedule a backup you will have to let it run automatically. Only then will the warning go away and the bar turn green.
Then the annoyance is not over. It will stay green even if the task does not run for any reason other than an actual failure. I believe it is also necessary to tick the box for the task to be run on startup if the computer was not on at the scheduled time.

This traffic light system, which at first sight seem like a good idea, has been so badly implemented to make it worthless except in special circumstances.

My opinion is that it should go back to the drawing board. Why not adopt the warning icon method in the system tray used by so many other safety applications ?

It should not be based on backup schedules but on actual backups and their dates. I can however see that external media would make this more complicated to implement. So for now at least give the user the ability to turn off these spurious warnings.
For this and other reasons I went back to Version10.

I agree. This feature Acronis just got wrong -- it's like Acronis doesn't get it about backups.

I use Windows Task Scheduler to run tasks because it can do the one important thing that the ATI scheduler cannot -- the Win Task Scheduler can wake yor PC from standby to run a task -- so you can schedule a task to run in the middle of the night when the PC is not being used and not have to leave the PC running full bore all the time just so the scheduled task can run.

As far as ATI 11 is concerned, no scheduled task has been run on my machine -- which means no ATI-scheduler task has run. So What? Who needs to know that if you aren't even using the somewhat deficient ATI scheduler? It's like having a warning light in your car that tells you the trunk/cargo is empty when you don't even use the trunk/cargo area.

Whether an ATI-scheduler task ran is really not very important -- what you really want to know is when the last backup was made and did the backup complete with or without errors, and if with errors, what were they. Presumably, ATI could grab all this info from its own log files.

I'm glad I'm not alone in this. I really hope they can just remove this part of the code AsAP, or listen to Shieber's suggestions, which are good.

    But yeesh.

I am glad to see this thread has been started because I was afraid I was the only one that hated this new "feature". As far as I can tell you must create this automatic backup and it will have to run every 7 days or you are going to have this yellow nag band on the screen.

I have always liked creating my backups manually and hate the fact that now I have been made to start creating this backup automatically. At the very least the software should have an option so that this can be turned off if you don't want to use it.

My experience is with XP and TI9.
I run manual images also, yet TI9 had 1 service, plus 1 auto start processes running at startup. So I went into XP Services and changed Scheduler 2 service to Manual status, and disabled TimouterMonitor.exe from startup group. Both processes no longer auto-start, but will load when I load TI9 to create a manual image. Possible you could try the same trick in TI-11. Acronis has a routine loading at startup to execute this activity, just have to find it. Naturally, their may be additional services and or auto-start-ups you need to address (TI-11). Also you would need to test that required services/processes load when you manually start TI-11.

Having thought a bit further about the " traffic light system". The only sensible way for Acronis to proceed would be to leave it as it is but give users the option to turn it off completely.

Because we all have different backup practices and habits it is hard to see how a warning system could be designed to fit all tastes.
To some users a failed or corrupted daily backup would be serious. For others a monthly or even longer period between warnings would be sufficient.
Where should the warning data be gathered from? An obvious choice would be the TI logs, however a considerable number of users create their images while booted from the rescue CD so those backups will not be in the internal logs. Another set of users always start backups manually so they are just not interested in the automatic warnings at all.
In my own case I do many restores to swapped HDDs. On those days the TI log shows the last backup as unfinished even though it was and has been restored Via the CD.

There may be some users who actually like the way the warnings work so it would be a shame to deprive them of this new toy so my suggestion to Acronis is: Please make the warning lights system optional for everyone ASAP.

Unfortunately, it doesn't tell you the right thing. It tells you if a schedule task ran not if you actually got a backup out of it. Tasks are only a means to an end, the end of course being the backup. It's like tellilng you if your motor has been turned on as an ersatz assessment of whether you made a trip or not. It jsut seems wrong-headed to me.

I too do not like this feature of TI 11 and find it annoying. Hopefully this will be changed when a new build is released

    Hello everyone,

Thank you for choosing Acronis Disk Backup Software.

I would like to inform you that the issue with Traffic Light not changing when a backup fails is being worked upon.

As for a feature to disable the Traffic Light completely, I will submit that suggestion to our Development Department.

If you have any further questions concerning Acronis software, please feel free to submit a request for technical support or post any of them on this forum. We will certainly try to help you in resolving any issues.

    Thank you.

I don't think it is a major blunder, but I have a laptop and my backup device is not connected all the time. I have to support an option to turn it off.

    Thanx

Although that would be okay for some, it shouldn't be hard to make it more usable. First, the light currently indicates yellow if a /scheduled/ backup has not run within the last week. Should be very simply to indicate yellow if /no/ backup (manual or scheduled) has not run in the last week.

Another simple change (considering how comprehensive this software is) is to allow the user to change the time until it changes yellow from one week, to any number of days. 1 day, 30 days, 365 days, or many thousands, effectively disabling the light. (Actually, 0 is typically used to indicate the time not to be used.)

An important point that is being missed here is that a user of scheduled backups should not have to open the Ti GUI and would not ever have to observe whatever the colour of the traffic lights.

I have my backup images scheduled in Windows and run restores form the recovery CD. I therefore have no need to look at the GUI for months on end. I should however point out that I have gone back to version 10 where scheduled backups run without fail.

Sometimes bells and whistles are added where they can't even be heard. Try &Decide not surviving reboots makes that feature somewhat useless for mamny progs one might want to try. But the alarm band is funny enough to almost be worth the price of admission. ;)
