I just noticed yesterday that NOD 32 disappeared off my system tray. I ran it again and after a while it shut down again. Logged off and on again and it loaded but after a while it just shut down so I re-installed it today getting a fresh copy from Eset and it was ok for a while. Then it started shutting down again. I've logged off and on again & it's loaded now but for how long I don't know.

I've checked in the services and all is ok so I can't figure this one out and need some advice as I need my antivirus. The last thing I want to happen is for it to shut down while surfing and catch a virus.

I've run a full scan and nothing turned up. Any suggestions??

    Hi !

The fact that the icon disappears doesn't mean NOD32 is not working . The icon is the system tray only indicated that the user interface is running . The kernel which is actively protecting your machine is always running .

The first thing I would try is to goto Control Panel > Taskbar and start menu and check if "Hide inactive icons" is enabled . If enabled , please uncheck it and then confirm with OK

If this is not the case , when the problem occures again , immediately open Task Manager (CTR+ALT+Del) and check if nod32krn.exe and nod32kui.exe are present . Look especially for nod32kui . Report back if it is .

Another known issue is that the icon disappears if you use ATI or NVidia video card and if your drives are not updated . Update your video card drives to the very latest and check again (you can find them on the manufacter's web-site)

Thanks for taking time to assist.

I didn't check to see if it was still running so I'll do that next time the icon disappears.

I did go back to older drivers the other day for better compatibility with a game I like because I had issues with the latest drivers.

But I did notice that since I installed Orbit download manager which grabs stuff off YouTube directly and is quite good, that while it was running the icon would disappear. Since I haven't run Orbit downloader the icon hasn't disappeared for a few hours so far so it may be that program but weird that a download manager could cause issues.

So far it hasn't crashed since I uninstalled that program so I'll wait and see if it remains stable.

    Thanks

    Dave

I just started having this exact problem. NOD32KUI.EXE keeps shutting down. It started about 1 week ago.

It is really shutting down, not just the icon disappearing. I've verified that the nod32kui.exe program is no longer running when the icon disappears. I'm not using any download manager like the orbit download manager the original poster talked about.

I haven't installed any new programs recently. The newest thing on my computer software wise is I've started using a magicjack VOIP hardware and software device. I can't establish any direct connection with the problem and this device or its software. The shutting down of nod32kui.exe problem happens whether the software is running or not. The hardware presents itself to the computer as both a CD drive and a usb removable drive. I've told NOD32 to exclude both of them from scanning. That doesn't change anything.

I've run several online scanners, Kaspersky, Trend Micro, and Panda. All come up with nothing.

I using the latest version 2.7. I downloaded and reinstalled it manually over the top of my current installation. Didn't fix the problem. Is anyone else seeing this problemo_O

    Thank you,

    Gary Britt

    Hello Gary!

Please , uninstall NOD32 v2 and install a newer version called ESET Antivirus (v3) . This version is not final version , it is Release Candidate version but should generally work well . Keep in mind that it is not final yet .

    1. Open Control Panel-> Add/Remove programs and Uninstall NOD32
    2. Reboot when prompt
    3. After restart , go to C:\Program files and manually delete the folder ESET

    4. Download a fresh EA from http://www.eset.eu/download/beta
Choose between x32 and x64 version of Eset Antivirus

    5. Install it . Use Typical install and keep essbeta for username/password . Don't forget to update the program after install (no restart is required)

    Enjoy!

Thanks for the advice. If I can't stop this behavior I may give the RC1 beta a try, although I am a bit reluctant to try beta stuff for such an important job.

The only thing that has changed recently is the use of the magicjack voip hardware/software. I've tried uninstalling NOD32 2.7, cleaning the registry and program files\eset then reinstalling NOD32 2.7. That didn't cure the problem. However, now I've added the magicjack.exe program and the websites it connects to to the high compatibility options for IMON. I've also excluded the hardware drives from AMON scanning. If this doesn't work then I may try the RC1 package.

Hey, I've got a couple of quick questions perhaps you could answer for me. Does NOD32 monitor and protect against malware coming in from news groups on port 119. Does it monitor outgoing email on SMTP ports other than port 25? I don't see configuration items for these kinds of things. I use Mozilla Thunderbird for both my email work and news group stuff.

    Thanks,

    Gary

    Sure . No problem.

v2 of NOD32 will not scan directly the traffic on port 119 but will scan all files the newsreader software has accessed/written with AMON . You will be protected .

v3 , however , can be made to scan this traffic - with the option with Protocol filtering .
First , in order to do this it must be set on either "Applications marked as browsers and email clients" or "Ports and applications marked as browsers and email clients" . One of these two options ...
Second , in Web protection you must manually add the application used as newsreader (a.k.a Mozilla Thunderbird) if not there yet ... and ... voalla , you are ready :) All the traffic generated by Mozilla Thunderbird will be scanned

    PF_submenu_options.PNG

AMON in v2 will not allow anything malicious to be sent no matter what port .
eAMON in v3 will do the same

Furthermore , in v3 if Protocol filtering is enabled , again all the traffic by Mozilla Thunderbird will be scanned no matter what port is used :thumb:

    You are welcome .

    Got it. Thank you.

Do you think version 3 will be as light on cpu usage as 2.x? That's something I like about NOD32.

Thought I'd post back the results of trying to fix the nod32kui.exe shutting down problem.

It appears to be fixed. It appears that magicjack.exe the software that goes with my magicjack voip ata device causes a problem for nod32kui.exe. My guess would be its magicjack.exe's fault but that nod32kui.exe isn't quite reacting to the problem properly and ends up shutting down or being killed.

The fix was to add the magicjack hardware device drives to the exclude list. Add magicjack.exe to the high compatibility list and add the web site addresses to which magicjack.exe connects, to the high compatibility list of web sites/servers.

After making these changes I don't seem to be having the shutdown problem.

    Thanks,

    Gary
