2.06p1 version for Win32.

Hi All,

This the 2.06p1 announce for Win32 versions of Windows.
This is just to align the win32 version with the x64 version.

Like for the x64 version:
- it has to be considered as a beta version
- the "Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable" package for x86 has to be installed first:

Unlike the x64 version:
- the drivers are still not digitally signed for this release
- the crash when entering an old 2.05 serial is fixed in this Win32 release

So this is considered a Beta so down the road there will be a Final not like 2.05p3 which was never a final product?

No, it's not like the 2.05p3.

The 2.05p3 contained some experimental features, so it was really a beta for tests.
Normally the 2.06p1 (for win32) should be just a small update of the 2.06. So, if there is no major issue reported, the 2.06p1 will become an official one.

I cannot install this version at all this is the error message I get!

I tried uninstall and delete the folder after reboot but still will not install!

And I have the "Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable" package for x86 installed!

Hi,

This error occurs when the VC2005 package is not installed.
Are you sure it is installed ?

I checked the files and they where older verion numbers so I download the newest version and Look'n'Stop installed prefectly!

Yes, it does. Actually the drivers remain the same as the 2.06 version (for Win32).

as a user using windows XP, not planning to use Vista anytime soon and not planning any major upgrade to my PC involving DEP... i am really disappointed you still don't let users like me use the thread injection and watch DNS calls features.

my box should not and never had any problems with those features. i think you should have at least make them a registry enable/disable features.

i chose to buy look n stop a lot because it stands pretty good against leak tests therefore these removed features are a big loss for me.

please consider my suggestion. there is no reason to make XP non DEP users less secure just because they upgrade to a new version of your product. maybe i am better off using some old version :/

I'm sorry these features are no longer available and you were using them.
Maybe they will come back with a different implementation.
There was too many issues with them (like for the other experimental features in the 2.05p3) and that's why they were removed. Even if you use back an old version of Look 'n' Stop, it is not sure they will still work (because they are dependant on some windows updates... which is one of the issue).

Is this 2.06p1 version still in beta version?

I try to detect if there is a new version available from LnS and it is said there no new version.

p in the version strings means pre-release, these should be considered beta releases, and these do not show up on the Look 'n' Stop update server.

 

Just want to ask--I am using LnS 2.06 (with Phant0m's rule set v.8 installed). Should all of us users download and install this new version, or should we just wait for it to be automatically installed via update/upgrade? I am using Windows XP Home Edition and do not at all plan on getting Vista (at least until I'm forced to! ) Thanks in advance for your help!

I would suggest NOT to hold back, v2.06p1 is a good release.

When I try to install this new version, I get an error message that says "Application failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix the problem!"
I'm not sure what needs to be done! Thanks again for your help.
I'm using Windows XP Home Edition.

 

I cant execute the LnS installer, I do get the file but when I double click I get a error message saying something like (translated from swedish)

"The software couldnt execute because of the softwares side by side configuration is incorrect"

First I thought it had something to do with Safespace (sandboxing software I am testing) So I downloaded LnS with both firefox and IE outside the box, but got the same error.
I did some downloading from other sites but those downloads where fine, both inside the sandbox and outside.
Is there something wrong with the .exe? or is it wilders somehow?

*edit* I see that I am not the only one having problem
I´m on Vista btw.

Since there is no major issue detected so far, it could be considered as a simple update now.
Because "Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable" is required, the automatic update detection won't work on that 2.06p1.
The setup will have to be updated to propose a download of "Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable", if not already installed. This will come with a 2.06p2 or 2.07.

Thanks for the quick solution to the problem! After installing the Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable, it installed beautifully! I was worried that Phant0m's ruleset would not transfer to the new version, but it did! Thanks again!

 

By the way, one minor issue has been detected in the 2.06p1: the .rie file association no longer works (when you double-click on a .rie file, or if you click on an hyperlink which download a .rie file).
This is linked to the usage of the new "Microsoft Visual C++ 2005" libraries, and hopefully it will be fixed in the next update.
