I would just to make sure nothing is left over, no orphans.

They send you an email with 3 attachments 1. lic_info.text
    2.Support.txt
    3.Hbedv.zip
Naa,I have a 6 month trial. Except I am at the end of it, I have 22 days left.
The nag screen is the last 30 days.

There is no harm in that.

Yes, I would uninstall the Classic first just to be safe. You get a key in the email as an attachment, so no worries there. No messages about a trial period or whatnot. All in all this baby is doing great, put it on today. If the update servers prove to be reliable (i.e. I can connect always) then I just might buy it when the time comes. I am liking it so far...

Is this offer for the security suite or the AV only?

Hi Mike, I think AV only.

To all those who replied to my questions. Thank you. :)

There's a different free offer for the Suite for three months rather than six.

I'm a real aficionado of Nod32, but downloaded the Avira offer for my son's computer. I scanned my son's computer with Eset's online scanner and it found 11 nasties. After downloading Avira, it found an extra 10 trojans not flagged by Nod...

Well as I said I'm staying with Nod, but kudos to Avira!

Well im not surprise that avira found more. And im not putting nod32 down i use to use it but it let me down just like you explain avira found 10 more i find that way to many for av not detect. So the reason i switch was that and that avira ran lighter then nod32 and it virus&malware database is huge compare to nod32 and others,so of course it going to find more so im avira all the way. But people have their choices. Good luck and stay clean!

I am up and running with this 6 month trial now. Thanks again for the "what to expect" replies. I might have been a little confused on the license key file part, but knew from the assistance offered in this thread what it was looking for and how to feed it what it wanted.

Now let me offer some help perhaps... :doubt: Here are some suggested settings and discussion on settings. I will be making some adjustments later this evening. I did to the extent I could when I had the free version. I got other things that need to be done for now.

See post number 3 in the above link. I merely pass this information along and make no representations as to if this is the best set up for adjusting Avira Premium. For example for me, I like the Mele20 approach better for handling found malware. I hope the membership finds it helpful.

I'm trying to decide whether or not to trial the Premium AV or the Security Suite. Has anyone tried the Security Suite? Does its WebGuard slow your surfing down?

That's a little surprising as the AV alone is quite good on resources. What do you consider too much resources?

    just for information.
the enw installers are able to remove all antivir versions. so if an other antivir version ist detected it will be uninstalled first.

I should also mention that my son's computer had Hauri V-robot AV pre-installed, and it is not a top notch AV.

If Avira detects more than Nod in a particular system is not always due to the fact that it has a huge database. To be fair I ran Nod online scanner FIRST on a system that was too infected, meaning that probably a second and even a third scan done with Nod as a properly installed program, would have harvested more nasties.

Nevertheless Avira has a good offer and it is indeed among the best. I've been with Nod exactly 2 years and soon I'm going to renew my license: I've never been infected with anything.

    Avira's WebGuard doesn't slow my surfing down. I can't tell it's there.

no slow downs here. The firewall seems to use some RAM and CPU sometimes, but only if you have a very big ammount of traffic: FTP servers, etc

I find it to be as fast as F Secure and I thought it was the fastest.

Trying it out here, don't notice the http scanner at all, which is nice. Also, I find it to be very light as suites go, some of them can and do run into the 50-70mb range and this one is only using total of 31mb ram right now. Quite a bit different... I am impressed so far, and just may buy it when this license expires..

Thanks for the heads up re the six month trial. I am just a few days away from the end of a six month trial, so am interested to see if this will give me another shot. Otherwise, I would go ahead and purchase a license for the Premium version.

I had some issues shortly after first installing some months ago - couldn't update certain files. Once I got over that hurdle, everything has been running smoothly and I have to say that this is a silky smooth AV experience.

Because of this great offer, I gave Avira Prem a trial. After 3 days I dropped it because it only allows 15 characters for exceptions to the Guard. That is much too short to fit my needs.

I searched their forum concerning this issue. One advice I saw was to move exception files to a special folder with a short name. Another suggestion was to set heuristics so low that there would be no occurrence of FPs-requiring-exceptions.

In other words, either redesign my file set-up, or else cripple Avira's heuristics, in order to live within the 15 character limitation. Gooood grief!:ouch:

In my experience, other AVs do not place any such restrictions.

    Bye bye to Avira :thumbd:

    Hello bellgamin,

I'm sure that you're aware that this limit is for process image names, as shown in task manager.

I'm curious to know which processes you wish to exclude that have longer image names.

    Cheers,

    Steve

I have some from certain programs (for business use) that are longer than 15. Luckily, I never had to exclude them. ;)
