    Hi All,

I am hoping I am in the right place for this post and some one can help me out here. Today I noticed that I am having a problem posting, it seems that

when I create my post I can noy preview them, when I try to it just posts its self!!! Also I can no longer add smiles to my post from the add smiles buttons as I could before.

I am useing Mozilla 1.4 browser I was curious if it had something to do with it. I have checked all my settings
and nothing has been changed. I have also looked under my profile to see if there was something there I was missing or could change.

Am I missing something? Or have I been taken over by the posting ghost? I can add smiles by typing them in but... LOL I cant remember most of them so I choose to use the buttons :)

    Very Best Regards,
    FireDancer

Well, I'm afraid I don't have a straight forward and complete answer for you on this problem. All I can say is that the board is running fine and posting is working for me and others. From the forum error log, I don't see any errors at all in the last 24 hours, either...

Here is a thread where someone else had a similar problem:

    https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=10340

Now, all I can say is to check your various security and privacy software. Many buttons on this site trigger javascript to execute their functions. If you block or filter active scripting, or any other elements like referrers, user agent, etc., then the software doing that may be the source of the problem. For *.wilderssecurity.com you may need to bypass these security filters, if any, and trust the site.

    Hi FireDancer:

I had the same problem and know how irritating it can be, but I think the answer - at least for me - was provided in LWM's remark: " Many buttons on this site trigger javascript to execute their functions. " In other words, to be able to use all functions at this site you're going to have to enable java. And, sad to say, even then things may not work. I guess it ultimately depends on just which browser you use and how you have it set up.

It's because of java-related problems here at Wilders that I've ended up using THREE browsers, all of them java-enabled (though normally I don't like to have java enabled as I've always thought it represented a security risk).

Of the three, Internet Explorer (which I don't like to use because of its well-known security vulnerabilities) seems to work best here at Wilders. To change settings in IE you'll need to go into Tools > Internet Options > Advanced. Second best seems to be Mozilla Firebird which I've just had to install because of the problems here. And the weakest of all (although it did seem to work well for a while) seems to be Netscape 7.1 - my favorite browser! And despite now having three browsers on tap, I still sometimes can't get some functions to work.

One trick to work around not being able to preview which I now use a lot is to hit SAVE, go to my message, check it, and then hit the MODIFY button at the top of the message if any changes are needed. Doing that takes me back to that tiny 'Post reply' box in which I can continue editing my message and then SAVE it again. That's why you see that 'Last edit...' thing on the last line of my messages. Another trick, if after hitting SAVE you can't find your post, is to hit the browser BACK button several times until you reach it.

Hope this helps, and Good Luck!

    Hi FireDancer:

I've just done a quick check of the Wilders function buttons in my three browsers - all java enabled - and found as follows:

    BUTTON NS 7.1 FB 0.7 IE 6.0

    Reply OK OK OK
    Preview X X OK
    Save/Post OK OK OK
    Modify OK OK OK
    Delete X OK OK
    Quote OK OK OK
    Smilies X OK OK
    Avatar X OK OK

'X' of course means that that particular function doesn't work. The Avatar 'X' means that when I go into my Profile to change it, my .jpg location vanishes and I have to re-enter it before leaving or lose my Avatar. So it's clear that with all functions OK, IE is the best browser to use at Wilders while, with 4 functions not working (at least in my setup) Netscape becomes the worst.

    Cheers
