Thanks, Firecat. One might be better off with the AVG AM, and use another firewall.
I bet Online Armor would be a good addition.
I have never used OA, but have used LnS and Kerio 2.1.5, and would not hesitate to use one of them, although they might not be as good as some of the new ones. My combinations have kept me malware free for about 8 years.

I ended up trading my lifetime Ewido for the offer of AVG AM, but have not wanted to disturb my systems. I'm not as capable as you and many others here.

    Thanks again,
    Jerry

I bought the FS 2008 and had some problems sending mail when firewall was in the high position and support told me to loose, spysweeper, regrun platinum, comoda boclean, ccleaner and windows defender in to to let FS work as it should. I am now trying to find something else to use on windows vista 32

Yes, they don't like you having any other resident security software.

Has anyone else had an issue with Firefox updates? On my laptop, and on a friend's PC, FSIS has blocked Firefox after the latest update, and it's had to be manually 'allowed' through the firewall.

I just added extra memory & retried the FSIS 08 & I like it, runs well, I don't see any sluggish now (1.5 gig mem) slow start up but it didn't seem as bad as last year, I'm going to play this out as I like how the new system runs with it...

I have FSIS2008 installed on another snapshot. 1 gig mem here and no slowdown and *no* delay when restarting whatsoever.

I think fsis improved. My only gripe is the firewall. Can't configure it the way I want it.

    2008 is actually quite light.

i have it on a snapshot without parental control and its 100% faster than its previous year.

My ISP supplies free FSIS 2008 and I was thinking of trying it out. If installing without parental-control, would disabling the firewall make much of a difference? I have a Gig of ram too, but I noticed slow-down while I used FSIS 2007 with parental control and FW enabled. (I have a router now and don't use a s/w-FW.)

just install without parental control, leave the firewall enabled, it doesnt slow anything down.

setting it to strict is a good idea too, and keep all AV settings on High, this is how i have it, and there is no slowdowns on vista HP. :)

Do you get a lot of pop-ups with that set-up?
How is it with false-positives set on high?

no, it just does the usual, pops up when a 'new program' wants to connect, simply tick the box and allow/deny, same as any other firewall.

i havnt recieved any yet, i dont think f-secure has a FP problem.

perhaps the second time I installed & I chose not to do parental protection is why it's running better but I have liked what I have seen. I noticed it hasn't updated yet today perhaps like a lot of AV vendos not many weekend updates but I used the 05 version on xp desktop & it would great at catching everything, I just chked it running only 2 processes?, can that be right?, I know I'm tired from work but using only 21megs mem?

What are you trying to get it to do? Maybe someone can help? I think there's plenty of configuration available with the firewall, but it might not be as straightforward as some.

I would like to be able to enter local port, remote port, and ip the applications connect to. So, basically also restricting access to certain ips etc etc.

I think you can do that under Internet Shield > Firewall > Configure, then it's a question of adding Rules and Services.

OK, well, I'm not sure what exactly you would want to do, but say I wanted to add Utorrent manually:-

Open FSIS then Internet Shield, then click Configure next to Firewall.

Go to services tab, click Add, then name the application, decide the protocol (TCP / UDP etc), and configure the port(s) you want it to use.

Then go to the Rules tab, find the application you have just added, and work through the 5 screens of options:

    1. Allow / Deny.
    2. Customise IP addresses (click Custom > Edit).
    3. Find application in list, tick, then click the little screen icons to get the arrows going in the direction(s) you require. This is to signify direction of traffic.
    4. Choose Alert notifications.
    5. Check new rule summary, and click Finish.

Obviously, you would have to adapt the above to your requirements, but that's the basics anyway.

    Hope it helps!

I like the way this runs but no updates since friday? and tho I'm behind a router I'm use to LnStop & it let's me know when certain things pop up, while benign in nature 99% of the time I don't see that from FSIS, seems the firewall too simple but I'm going to stick it out. I still like how this runs & perhaps need more time to configure...

Unless there is a major outbreak, auto updates usually have the weekends off, Larry. :)

THEY LIED!!! It was FSIS 2006 with no ParentalControl-exclusion! ISP added so much crap, 17 processes adding up to over 100MB mem usage, and I had everything diabled except scanners and firewall! * :thumbd: :thumbd: On to the next....
