I agree with you. Something as crucial as a Splash Screen hanging up systems should be dealt with in a somewhat quick manner. I cannot even use my system unless I am in Safe Mode. The Splash Screen disables my entire system, and I cannot uninstall ESS in Safe Mode. So I am stuck using my machine in Safe Mode until the problem is resolved. I'm sure there are other's who cannot use their systems to their full potential either because of this issue. Not being able to uninstall a Beta release should raise some flags.

safe mode/disable eset services, then reboot & uninstal

Running from within Safe Mode with Networking without firewall might be dangerous!!!

Do the following:
1) While in Safe Mode , goto Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services
Find ESET's service , right click it and set it to Manually . Restart the computer in Normal Mode .

2) Your computer will now work unless ESS is not the case of the problems . No matter that the splash screen will be present , goto Control Panel -> Add/Remove programs and uninstall ESS.

In case you have problems uninstalling , download a fresh installer of ESS from http://www.eset.eu/download/beta/ and run it . Let it Remove the current ESS . Reboot back in Normal mode

3) After this make sure you a firewall and AV (at least Windows Firewall) ON

Ooooh Beta Handbags at dawn. ~Snip - Off topic comment removed.~ The Eset Beta made me install windows 3 times in days as I thought it was something else. It wasn't

 

I have no other security programs running other than Windows Defender. I unchecked network drives and it didn't have any effect.

On my machine this happens consistently on every reboot. I understand its beta and that's the way it goes, but this is a pretty significant annoyance for a lot of XP users (it seems). Some are already dumping ESS beta2 because of this. So IMO, it might benefit ESET to fix this sooner rather than later, so they don't loose too many testers. The larger the test base the better the final product, after all.

 

Marcos still no fix for this problem? It is very annoying for me to wait 60 secs for splash screen to disappear.

 

Its not only XP2...Vista here...and same problem!!!

I have disabled the splash screen, but that doesnt help. I have done everything I can think of, and basically, sometimes it will loads after a few minutes (yes...MINUTES)...sometimes it hangs and I have to hard reset.

Everytime I have to restart, I now have to use "System Restore" from Safe Mode. For some reason, going back to a restore point (while ESS is still on the system for that restore point)... it will load (eventually)

All other versions have worked beautifully. Beta 2 seems to be the nightmare.

 

Have there been any updates to this slow startup? I fixed my splash screen problem, but now ekern.exe locks up the entire system, and cannot use a single thing, not even Task Manager, I have to do a hard shutdown and boot into Safe Mode to disable the processes.

Any progress on this, i've seen it on 3 different Machines now, on Vista and on XP?

 

Hmm there was me thinking it was another program, but you're right the tray icon for ESS takes the longest to load. I usually don't boot more then 3 times a day so the extra ~40 seconds isn't that much of a problem for me, but still it's odd this wasn't in the previous beta and pops up all of a sudden.

I hope you guys at Eset figure it out, untill then I'll just be a bit more patient.

And it is called beta after all.

 

I am using XP Pro SP2 and I have disabled the splash screen. The actual boot up process time on my machine is about the same as the production version of NOD32, and I have a lot of programs that load. However, there is far longer initial start-up CPU usage (about four minutes) than NOD32.

May I join in about the topic (in the list of complainers ) . Every restart is real pain in the a** Ah , this beta...

No problems if NOD32 v2 are installed

A hotfix for this really should be provided ASAP.

 

Given ESET's position on providing providing a timely patch for this issue (ie not providing one, just wait for the next beta) I hope that their patching system for the production version is absolutely flawless! Otherwise it could be said that ESET failed to take reasonable advantage of the perfect opportunity to test the patching ability of ESS while it was still in the beta phase.

 

They've already done it before. We all had "this beta will expire in 6 days" and then we all didn't and none of us changed anything on our own

this is my 1st post here and i write to ask for help if there is any sollution on my problem.

I installed the beta version of NOD32 (the antivirus). Everything worked fine. I later decided to install the beta version of the Smart Security (with the firewall). After a couple of days or so, i experienced the same slow startup on my Windows XP. Besides that i also experienced that the whole system seems slower. For example, when i used to record a DVD on 6x, the buffer (nero) would be OK. But now, on same speed and with all progams closed (using task manager, enditall2, starter) the nero program cannot write in same speed as before.

I then decided to uninstall the Esset application via normal way. But unfortunately the problem remains.

Is there any idea why is this happening? I checked for virus but nothing..or spyware. Did i miss something about the uninstallation because i read somewhere that we should do this via Safe Mode?

i got same problem on Vista x86
and its even worse!, also NOD32 Antivirus 3.0 hangs on startup!
after a delay

problem is in NOD32 AntiVirus 3.0 Beta 2 and Eset Smart Security Beta 2

For those with Vista what has helped me with ESS startup issuses is to change the startup type of the Eset Service from Automatic to Automatic (Delayed Start).
