Maybe somebody reading this can help.

About a week ago I came across some website that had some kind of software for download that helps you if your computer freezes.

The description was basically something like: This program runs silently in the background and if your computer freezes you can press a certain key combination and the program will kick in and gain back control of your PC.

And I was thinking to myself... yeah who needs that... and I closed the webpage.

Today my computer froze and I had to do a hard reboot and all that time I was wishing I had that software :)

Well... I was so quick to brush it off I don't even remember the name of it or where I found it or how I even found it. All I know is that it is out there somewhere and I want it!

So if anyone has any info on the whereabouts of this software or any information which can lead me to the location of this software please let me know. Thanks :thumb:

I use APT or Advanced Process Terminator & put it in the quick links Task Bar. It should be available from the old Diamond cs forum available at Wilders. Be careful you do not kill some essential process however.

Nope that's definitely not it. But thanks for trying :)

The software I came across was very simple with absolutely no options. I don't even think it had a GUI. If it does have a GUI it is only to allow you to configure the hotkey combination.

It just sits in the background taking up virtually no memory just waiting for you to press that hotkey so it can save the day.

Hi Woody777. Unfortunately APT wouldn't have been able to save me from the system-freeze I experienced yesterday. I couldn't even bring up Task Manager with CRTL-ALT-DEL as the system was so unresponsive.

The software I came across was specifically designed for this type of problem. It's an emergency-only type of program to use when all else fails. Man, I wish I had bookmarked that webpage... this will easily drive me crazy for the next few weeks.

    Oh YEAH! That's the one!!

Thanks man! I knew someone here would be able to help :D :thumb:

    Edit:
Well it seems it's not even possible to download (or even purchase) the software at this time. :doubt:

    You're very welcome.

Oops, yes, i've just seen that it isn't available. Maybe you should write them an email, they are really helpful. Some time ago i purchased Multimon from them, as there was a discount stated on their site. But when it came to the online shop only the old price was available. I wrote them an email and they corrected this. Maybe they provide you a download link for AntiFreeze.

    That's exactly what I've done :)

Hopefully they'll get back to me soon before my PC freezes again

It would appear that you will have to wait a while since it is still being developed. Someone earlier asked about a rescue program. If this program still depends on the keyboard or mouse connections to activate the program, that may not be possible when you have situations when the installed core memory drivers for the keyboard and/or mouse are overwritten and become disconnected from the devices.

Strange, I'm sure I read about AntiFreeze years ago?

If so, then it has been in development for a long period? o_O

You might check out ProcessTamer from donationcoder.com. It works in a similar way, but instead of suspending anything that uses too much CPU it lowers the CPU priority so that it will give way to other programs. This keeps the system from locking up in the first place, and works automatically. The program will continue to do what it's doing, so either it will finish what it's doing or you will be able to take care of it.

I found this program invaluable before I got dual core processors. It saved me from countless lockups. I believe ProcessLasso works the same way, but I liked ProcessTamer better.

    Thanks Notok!

I actually came across ProcessTamer during my search for AntiFreeze. I didn't give it much attention since I was focused on finding AntiFreeze again.

Well, the folks at Resplendence still haven't responded to my email so I will have a look at ProcessTamer. It seems like an interesting little piece of software.

    Thanks :)

I've just received a reply from Resplendence stating that the software will soon be released.
Would be interested in what you think about "ProcessTamer", price wise it's a lot cheaper than "Antifreeze":)

In an earlier message I mentioned I had read about Antifreeze years ago. I had, but it was a different programme with the same name. Norton CrashGuard had Antifreeze:oops:

Oh that's cool. I wonder why they ignored my email then? o_O

PT is pretty neat. I've been using it but still haven't been in a real-life situation where I would need it to save me. So I can't have a strong opinion until that happens. But I do agree with you, price-wise, it's unbeatable. :D

I've tried it in virtual mode (shadowuser) and it did exactly the opposite of what it was supposed to do: The system hung forever when I tried to reboot, I had to use the main switch to restart.

They certainly don't like each other.
