A long time ago....back when it was just Tiny..and it was free.

Computer Associates gobbled them up a few years ago, it's been dissolved, no longer updated under its own name.

Why not do a search here at Wilders? It is likely that you will get a bunch of old threads on it.

I'd not touch a security product that is not updated anymore. IMO updates to your security software are prudent.

If you are interested in Tiny just download CA HIPS. It is the same as Tiny 6.5.126 with a couple of added features. I do not know what CA's relationship is with Snort organization but when Tiny Software still owned the product and when they released a new version it sometimes included updated Snort rule sets.

I still use the original Tiny on my main machine. IMO, it was what all firewalls are now aspiring to be...it was way before it's time!

Be advised however that it is a complicated piece of software and if configured incorrectly you can be locked out of your PC. Because their is no dedicated forums for Tiny/CA users, you will have to ask on different forums (Wilders, DSLreports, etc.) to help if something goes amiss or you desire input on how to configure it.

    Good luck,
    Robert

P.S. I am waiting for a Vista version to be released. I have tried ALL the available firewalls for Vista and none suite me for one reason or another. Just spoiled from using Tiny all these years. However, using ESET or KAV on all my machines as an anti-virus as I prefer seperate security apps.

I used it for 6 months and I liked it. It was indeed a quite complicated software that required a bit learning time. But if you are dedicated there is no problem.
I especially loved the sandboxing feature because it had a option to move your installation out of the box easily if you decided to trust it.

But then I learned that I had thrown my money into a black hole (it got abruptly abandoned when they sold it to CA) and I didnt feel like paying for it once more, and CA chose to silence it to death (ie they didnt reply to any inquires), so I figured that they didnt want anyone to get the impression they cared. So I ditched it and moved on to other HIPS. I have not tried my version with Vista (that I use now) but I doubt it will work.

If you only want the firewall:

    1) Extract the files from 'CA_HIPS_r8.zip'.
    2) Locate the folder 'Learning_Mode_Tool'.
    3) Execute the 'Harness-1.0.172.exe'.

I used the old Tiny 6.5 Pro for a while, it was interesting, and quite a challenge to configure. One of a kind, and we probably won't see another one like it for a long time..

it has some features with are quite advance for even now days firewalls like its router device control.......

some of it most of its features we can see in comodo 3 beta

tiny is little too hard to configure but great firewall i would say

only lacks in features java, java script referrer control blocking...etc

it do have active x control

also lacks in self protection (you can just click and shut down through tastmanager which is not possible in outpost, KIS for example)mode and driver level protection like new firewalls are giving now days example...OUTPOST SECURITY SUITE

please make me correct if i give any wrong information
but still having firewall of year 2005 it very very advance till now we cannot see many features of tiny in new firewalls wish we see them in feature........:D
