ive just found out it is OEM, even though they have stated retail/single.

can someone please tell me (or show me) the difference please.

    :shifty:

    edit: i found it, here

lol, not much difference at all really is it?

Indeed, the only difference is the small OEM badge on the UI, but it's worth bearing in mind that OEM versions cannot be used with retail licenses, and when upgrades are released, unless you come here where clever people know where to get it, you have to contact support for the new version. :)

Incidentally, there is a difference to the firewall, in that in the Firewall Rules section, Network Browsing is now listed and set to block by default. This has to be allowed in the firewall rules, in order to access files and printers on a home network, as I found out when I installed FSIS 2008, and could then no longer access my desktop PC form my laptop.

I never had any issues updating a OEM license to the next version.

I find it quite silly that this 2008 version doesn't support Vista 64. Kaspersky does and they are still inside FIS too, aren't they?

awww, dont be too down hearted :)

these deals are always available, you just need to keep your eyes open.

Norton AV is going for 10 years for $60, its from a good seller but dont offer paypal as a payment.

anyway, the sealed original box of 25 cds should arrive tomorrow, yippeeeeee.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
it only says OEM in a few places, so its not too bad.

Process manager information for all you curious folk.

regardless of ram usage or whatever, the suite is much lighter on the system than previous versions.

Wow.. is that really light ? These days light is 2-4 processes and less than 15MB.

no, its not 'that light', there are certainly lighter ones, but not by much, also its much lighter than previous years.

also, ram usage and processes mean nothing for the lightness and response times of the antivirus.

ok, my F-secure box arrived :)

24 years, not 25 ... should i get in touch to complain? :)

but then again, it was only £9/$18, and the hassle of chasing 1cd might not be worth it, as 24 years is still long for that price.

    what do you think? :)

yep, but i dont think i need anymore :)

performance of this 2008 is certainly much better than 2007, i can safely say that.... although i dont think 2007 was that bad, apart from the slow bootup.

anyway, sometimes when you see these deals, you cant believe it... and think, no way.

but 26 years of f-secure, each a valid unregistered licence (cd's included for each) for just £9/$18 (this includes price of delivery too :D )

    its unreal, im v.happy :)

I'd probably buy some at that price just to give away. The only problem is that I don't know anyone that uses anything except AVG or the OEM that came on their computer.

Seems that no one except "us chickens" uses the ones we prefer here.

Now C.J.S you cannot use two AVs on one computer, as you know, so you know what that means, don't you?:D

    Jerry

i certainly do know what it means,

just gonna keep it on snapshot, for the next 26 years :)

i could easily switch to f-secure for a month or so, then back to drweb.

im certainly not selling them or giving them away jerry.

if all goes belly up with drweb, im secure for the next 26 years. :D

That's my boy! :thumb: I was almost afraid that Dr Web might go out of business.:D :D

Hey, what if there were a special offer for the same for Kaspersky. It would be funny for you to have so many lifetime supplies. At least that would be a lifetime for me.

But I have liked FSIS and never found it slow. I have not used the 2008 so if it is faster then that is all to the good.

    Regards,
    Jerry

yep its much faster than 2007,

of course, drweb is my top priority, but i couldnt refuse such an offer :)

If I know true, OEM licenses can only be sold with a new computer or hardware. So buying and using like this is illegal (at least not ethical).

If that is the case my OS (Vista Ultimate OEM) is illegal :ninja: NewEgg did not require to purchase any hardware to go with it though at the time I thought this was kind of strange. The last time I bought an OEM, XP Home, I had to buy a piece of hardware. That that instance I bought a $1 EIDE cable, lol.

i tryed out f-secure 2008 on my test pc today.
and it took less than 1minute to load up once the desktop had loaded on a pentuim 3 processer with only 256mb on ram running windows 2000 pro.
so the loading time is quite alot less.
the gui loads quicker as well.

Actually I like their AV product better then the suite. It has DeepGuard in it to. It just doesnt have intrusion protection or the firewall. But I am liking it.

    Uh-oh

    Half price to. here

    Hi Jeff,
When installing FSIS is there an option to not install the firewall?
I seem to think that some suites have that option, but not sure.
    Thanks,
    Jerry
