Was reading about Shadow User and Shadow Surfer; they sound pretty much alike, at 1st glance, but I assume it's not quite that simple. What are any differences between the two? It sounds as though it is some sort of sandbox approach? For those using these programs, I'd like to hear your take on ease of use, and overall impressions.

Maybe you will have better luck with it.
Hi SG1 I have used Shadow Surfer for some time now. I find it a very good program and very user friendly. It is a little similar to Sandboxie but more user friendly. I use it for general internet surfing... A simple interface means to enable shadow mode click one button then reboot. To disable shadow mode click one button then reboot, after which changes made in shadow mode will be gone... Also in "shadow mode" my system files and my C:\ drive is "protected" - I have just the one partition. I think that Sandboxie would be better then Shadow Surfer for people who want to test programs, in that many software programs require a reboot. With Shadow Surfer all changes are lost on reboot. This would not be good for software testers. When installing Shadow Surfer, I found it best to temporarily disable HIPS programs etc that interfered with the installation. One small point - With any of these sandbox/virtualization type programs, I still keep enabled my virus checker/anti malware software/ hips program/trojan finder/rootkit detector/ etc as an extra precaution. It is Virtualization. I use SS for malware testing. Advantage is that it can cover all disk partitions while Returnil covers only C partition. It fails against KillDisk virus though while Returnil passed.
Mm I thought Surfer was free - yep if you look hard enough there's still a SURFER coupon - so is it free?
ShadowSurfer free ? I don't think so. StorageCraft lost already enough money on ShadowSurfer due to piracy.
