    Jarmo,

The links to versions 5.6.3311 and 5.6.3408 were provided in other message threads on Wilders. These versions were issued late in 2005 after Symantec shut down the Sygate website.

    Version 5.6.3311 message thread:
    https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=107347

N.B. Version 5.6.3311 requires a license key to be input in order to install it according to red_jack so there is no "free" version for this beta. The download file is in RAR compressed format.

    Version 5.6.3408 message thread:
    https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=110215

N.B. Version 5.6.3408 did have both a free and Pro version. The download file is in EXE format unlike the other ones located in the SAVEFILE site which are in ZIP compressed format. Oldversion.com has only versions up to 5.6.2808. I was able to locate version 5.6.2818 as well.

    For those who have pro:

Red_Jack posted the latest update for the signature file for Sygate Pro. The signature file is version 1.0.1077.

Sygate Pro build 5.6.3311 has a signature file included and its version is 1.1.2001.

edit: just started to test 5.6.3408 Pro. It has the same singature file number as build 5.6.3311. I have a problem with 5.6.3311: If I tick the box "block all traffic while the service is not loaded" and tick "allow initial traffic" then windows explorer will fault immediately after logging in and when shutting down. This problem is not present in 3408.

    Leonardo.

I just installed the 5.6.3408 Sygate version to a PC that previously only had the XP firewall. It provides more logging information and is more graphical than the XP firewall. There was a concern that all applications are default set to "act as server" and that you had to manually change the setting for every application to turn it off. Is there anyway to set the "act as server" to off in the program automatically? I did not find any configuration menu to do that. Also, since the XP firewall is a one way firewall, does that mean that any program that you allow to run will automatically be allowed the "act as server" privilege?

If you check "Don't allow exceptions" under the General tab in
the Windows firewall, I believe that all programs are automatically
denied server rights. See the Risks of Allowing Exceptions discussion
in Windows Help and Support on the Start button.

This is one annoyance in Sygate, unfortunately there is no way to force it to default to anything other than "act as server". Not that big of a deal though, if you just remember to change it for each app you add.

Never bought Pro. Try one of these Pro verisons and it only operates in the Pro mode for a limited time. Correct?

According to Red_jack, sygate firewall support tech, the later versions do not have a trial period associated with them. The Pro versions required a license key entry to install the program and you also needed to include a signature file to complete the install (I think for the IDS mode). But there was no lock out in the program.

So, having never owned a Pro license, I'll have to stick with the free versions. From quote above and after reading the threads referred to in previous post. Thanks for your reply ccsito.

I just finished using 5.6.3408 Pro for several days here (trying out the AntiVir Suite now), and it worked fine for me. In fact, no problems whatsoever. But that's always the nature of things, something works on one PC and not on another...
