Superantispyware has a red x on siteadvisor...

And this is probably the last straw for me from mcafee, I can't believe they have the nerve to consider superantispyware with a red x because the average person with no knowledge of security will consider superantispyware untrustworthy and cause damage somehow, I say down with mcafee, I'm switching to trend micro protect for an advisor.

EDIT: Just checked out the Mcafee SA on SAS what a load of BS.
SAS is a safe and effective AS. Makes me think even less of McAfee(if that was possiable)

But in all fairness LSP scans in realtime where apps like SA have an outdated database.
Still red flaging SAS is BS.

 

Is this the same McAfee who's antivirus persists in flagging and deleting hijackthis.exe every time I plug my USB stick into a PC running it?

FPs occur all the time. Plus this isn't. Some of the links I understand really do serve spyware. So what?

That's the problem with the analysis based on links, it's funny to penalize sites based on sites they link cos they have no control over them. I understand though how it can be useful.

That said, Super is a good product.

My superiors tell me that WSG is actually more secure than SiteAdvisor in the way it handles data from the server and data (in the form of user ratings and reviews) sent back to the server.

 

To be fair your "superiors" are the guys who actually build/fund the thing, it would be strange for them to say otherwise.

 

True, but they are the guys who know how to analyze the privacy/security of the WSG-type programs, being as how they are the ones who built WSG.


Well, actually the difference is quite clear:
SiteAdvisor just alerts you of the risk when entering a website. You can enter a website and use it even if its bad.
WSG will prevent use of bad sites until you click the "Enter Website" button. This will prevent you from clicking any bad link on the website accidentally.
