hi, i haven't run my virus checker for ages but download a lot of music, have just run it and its found loads of this thing called Worm.VB.dw, its sitting in quarantine but my laptop is running really really slowly, especially when i'm trying to run my internet explorer, i'm on 8 meg broadband so its normally well speedy! i'm rubbish in terms of computers and just want to get rid of it!! tried running in safe mode but then it blocks me from using my virus software all together so can't get anywhere near it!! completely stuck and really don't want to have to pay a fortune to get it fixed!!

no i don't think so, but then again it could be.... to be fair it seems a bit too clever for me and i've managed to get rid of everything else that had invaded (is that the right word??) all the spyware and malware has gone and some evil cookie things but this one worm just won't go away and also, why is it called a worm?? is it something to do with wriggling about?? i did warn you of my naivity!!

I am sure someone from Ewido support can help you-that IS what you are using isn't it?

Also, if it's that bad, you can go to this forum where they analyze hijack logs-

    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/

which is a whole 'nother story, but, they will tell you what you need to do.

    HTH

pink pink bunnys and worms  didnt know bunnys liked worms, unless its a worm in your lettuce bowl  And yes, some Internet worms can wriggle about untill they wriggle and burrow deep into your computer programs, making them do all kinds of wierd stuff, and then..... Your in a **** farm up to your knees in problems. What AntiVirus are you using as a matter of Interest o_O Is your Ewido, or AVG Anti-Spyware as it is nowadays up to date? If not Update the Bugger right away :p I sugest deleting the Worm from the Quarentine, and then running a Virus and Spyware scan again, and See if it finds the worm again, if not its gone! :p Next empty all your Internet files from your Computer, Cookies as well.
I trust you know how to do this? If not in Internet Explorer go to Tools/Internet Options/Delete files and Offline content and delete Cookies.

Get back to me on how you get on with the Above mentioned  :D

brill thanks! have deleted it from quarantine and a rerunning the virus scanner now! hopefully it will have disappeared, the other thing is, i know it came through my limewire cause thats what all the addresses say, i've uninstalled it but theres loads of exe files left when i try to delete them they say some random error message about cuurently being used and to close them before i delete them! when i try to reinstall limewire it says its already installed and i need to uninstall it, i don't know if this is a thing that the worm thing does.... ah and thanks for clearing the worm thing up, not a big lettuce fan, bunnies can't digest it properly but then that's a whole different story!!

Interesting *puppy* does limewire still show in the Add/Remove programs o_O Another thing I can think about is this: In your program files on the C: drive, there is also a folder called Common Files, open that folder and look to see if there is any reference to a Limewire folder, If there is, delete it.

Also if Limewire still shows in the Add/Remove programs, you can try a program called Advanced Uninstaller PRO that you can use to remove stuborn programs that refuse to uninstall. Lastly the only other thing I can think of as to why the limewire files refuse to delete, is that they are still active in msconfig. Go to Start/Run and type msconfig in the popup window, then click on the Startup Tab, and look for anything thats named limewire, or remotely close to being called that, and untick it. Sorry I cant say exactly what these items would be called as I havent used Limewire in a million years :p Oh! and when you uninstalled limewire, you did reboot didnt you? because you will need to do so to remove the stubborn folders and exe's *puppy*

Good luck, let me know gow you do ;)
