What does this option do?

I prefer to have the error reporting disabled, but you can find out about it here:-

I just want to make sure, on the AVG AS Tools there are 2 spots for error reporting services. One is at the top under Error Reporting (Microsoft) and the other is under Services, I assume the one under services is the one you were referring when you said disable the service too.

I did disable both in AVG and when I went through the process in your quoted text to doublecheck, the two were disabled already.

I also noticed the disable UPnP option in AVG, which is nice as that has caused me problems at times.

 

Really the Antispy feature in AVG-AS is just intended as a conveniant way of disabling/re-enabling things, thus saving you the bother of doing it 'manually'. If you've already disabled something then it will appear with a 'check' mark in Antispy.

As far as I know, the two error reporting entries in Antispy are the same as the two items noted in the article I quoted, but it's easy enough to confirm by re-enabling then in Antispy and then confirming by noting whether they've been re-enabled in your system.

In some cases it may be possible to disable things using Antispy that are otherwise difficult to disable from within the program. For example, I use Media Player 10 and you cannot prevent it from auto-updating (the best you can do is set it to look once a month, in Tools/Options/Player). But you can do it simply with Antispy (though you have to uncheck 'Show only recommended settings' to access the feature).

To disable UPnP there are two Services that both need to be disabled, namely:-
'Universal Plug and Play Device Host' (UPnPhost) and 'SSDP Discovery' Service - (SSDPSRV)

The 'Plug and Play' (PlugPlay) Service is different and shouldn't be disabled.
