Just want to find out from Linux users here. What's your favorite Linux desktop environment? Gnome or KDE?

I use both but I think KDE is the better of the two.

    KDE :thumb:

I've tried gnome, KDE, fluxbox and XFCE. My favourite was gnome, for probably no good reason other than it was the first I tried.

I have to go with gnome (for now). While KDE has its advantages, I just basically like the look and feel of gnome. It was also the first one I used. You always remember your first love.

    Hello,
I prefer KDE, but Gnome has been flirting seriously with me lately.

i like gnome, xfce and fluxbox best. i'm using fluxbox atm, all 3 use the gimp toolkit - gtk, kde uses qt that's why it looks different. fluxbox is a tiny download you might as well try it, but you have to configure it to make it usable. i used these links - http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_Fluxbox http://iphitus.loudas.com/fluxfaq.html there's a thread at ubuntuforums about kde4 and lots of gnome users are saying they might switch to kde when it comes out.

I like Gnome best, for day to day use seems easiest for me to use.

I liked Gnome for a while, but then went back to KDE. Lately I am enjoying Xfce more and more also..

Favorite desktop environment, Xfce 4.4 with KDE and Gnome applications enabled. Faster than an intention. :D

    Best regards,
    Firefighter!

KDE for its apps, even though I personally feel Gnome is more stable but can't live without KTorrent, Kopete, KGet etc.

    No preference.

Getting a feel for each of the main contender's should help stay current, and provide more option's for window user's seeking transition. Enlightenment (dynamic aboard Austrumi), Mezzo (standard on SymphonyOS but also offered as a package for Debian based distro's) look interesting. Both should become popular with continued development.

Linux novice here. Been using Linux for about 3 months. I've tried Mepis and PCLOS with KDE. I like KDE but on my oldish laptop it can get bogged down. Gnome seemed a little lighter when using Granular but still struggled at times on my machine. Enter Elive and the Enlightenment desktop. Well, this thing just blew me away. The speed compared to any other desktop I've used is difficult to believe. Its taken me a while to configure it the way I want (I'm using the test updates with the "shelves") but now, it would take something special for me to change. I might try Ebuntu on another partition to see how it goes.
