Just received an email from Acronis suggesting that I upgrade to version 10 and get the new version 11 that will be released soon FREE.
It states that versing 11 will be "Better suited for home users".
    Simpler and lighter.
    Smart scheduling.
Reasonable default settings, and much, much more.

Does anyone have more detailed information in regards version 11?
Sounds like a cut down, or light version to me:)

There have been a number of users, probably me included, that have expressed desire for a "no-frills" version of TI. Unfortunately, what I may consider a frill someone else may consider essential.

Oh dear. I suppose we will fetch up with the same situation that afflicted V9. V10 will be bypassed by V11 leaving all the unfixed and long out standing faults of v10 still unfixed!!
I am all in favour of a simplified TI home but to have to pay again for a stripped down version does not really grab my attention. When V11 is released I suppose it will be necessary for some of the stalwart supporters to purchase it and test it out to help the mainstream users to decide to downgrade or not. Because the marketing descriptions have in the past not always matched up to what was actually supplied.

In the meantime Acronis, fix the multiple image validations in "Backup Locations" and the Secure Zone. For goodness sake make the "consolidation process" of incremental/differential backups either optional or do away with it entirely. There are probably many other outstanding items that are supposed to work and do not. A renewed list of outstandings might help a steer in the right direction.

I wonder if Acronis is going to remove features or if they're going to do a "basic" and "pro" version split. True Image 11 Basic Edition & True Image 11 Professional Edition, for example.

I do full and complete backups only, restored on two occasions and never had a problem. Is there a reason I should consider version 11?

No. Unless you change hardware & your current solution stops working.

    That's right, never consider improvement.

This is still a rip off anyway. I am in the UK and the US exchange rate is about £1=$2. So a $29.99 upgrade should cost around £15.00 + VAT

However on selecting 'Pound Sterling" the pre VAT price is shown as £20.40. This means that before VAT UK purchasers are being offered the product for over $41 plus VAT.

On some browsers, if you try to disappear from the site it offers a discount. Worked at work, but not using Exploderer v7 or Opera v9.0

I was going to purchase the workstation version, but I might be a sucker and see what v11 is like. If they fix the annoying Logitech wireless mouse problem, it'll be worth the money for me.

I'd expect a new version to be released roughly once per year or so.

Is it no longer possible to pay in $ ?

also recent email from Acronis suggested that 11 would still be bloated. I asked if there was anyway to do a minimal install - bit like 9.1 - and they said no and that "The mentioned feature is not implemented for Acronis True Image 11.0 Home"

    Yes indeed. Based on

    v10 2006
    v9 2005
    v8 2004
    v7 2003
    v6 2002
    V1 2001 (True Image Deluxe)

I would say so, until the bells and whistles dry up anyway.

Does the "much, much more" include that it work properly?

Personally, I've not had problem with TrueImage but then I only use the software in a basic way (version 6 though to version 9). However, I suspect that the "much, much more" will cause ongoing problems with users:)

Looking on the bright side, if TI didn't cause problems there would be no need for this forum and I would miss that:D

Well, if the eliminate crap like (in)SEcure Zone, that would be good.
However, if the move some of the useful features, such as mount/unmount to a more expensive version, I would switch to another product.

And there's always the capability of creating a multiboot system using Linux, and backing up with Linux using free programs.

    Howard -

Just curious, what other product(S) would you consider?

Moderators would be unlikely to allow such discourse here.

Good point. Actually there have been many threads, like this one. This one alone will keep you busy for a while.

As I recall, I am in that thread at least once.

It's really time for a fresh thread.

    Hello everyone,

Thank you for choosing Acronis Disk Backup Software.

Please note that we continue to develop the version of Acronis True Image for home users (Acronis True Image Home) and we do have plans to release the next version of Acronis True Image.

We always try to make our products simpler to use and include in our products most wanted user-suggested enhancements.

I'm sorry, but at the moment we cannot provide you with more information about functionality of not-released products as well as the exact time-frame for the release, since it is not decided yet.

    Thank you.
