Norton Internet Security 2008 Beta

To me, BETA means free large scale testing for the company with all risks borne by the BETA user (as described in either the EULA or disclaimer.) I would love to be a paid tester but that day will never come as long as there are those willing to assume the risks of unproven software plus you have to uninstall it whether you decide to buy it or not. Never BETA, never will.

some betas are extremely stable and have been since day 1, not all companys release any old crap, that will mess up someones computer just so they can locate the problems.

betas SHOULD be used with caution, but some have tons of errors, some very little and some none.

 

I agree with you C.S.J. The problem I have is using a BETA program is testing your luck along with the program. My hat is off to all the brave souls that may put their computers in jeopardy so that the others can purchase a well tested product a few months after it has been offered for sale (after reading the reviews, of course.)

I was going to try the beta on a virtual machine until I read the EULA. I didn't care for the privacy part of the Eula. I don't want my private information going all over the world and I don't trust Symantec or any other vendor to protect it in countries where the privacy laws are weaker than ours (not to say ours are great but they are better than some countries). So, I'm not doing the beta and I won't be using the final version either as I can see just from the Eula that the final version will have stuff that I consider privacy invasion. I have done Symantec betas in the past although not in the last few years. The betas I did had no privacy invasion like this.

 

What exactly is it that you find so concerning? (I don't have the agreement at hand right now ..)
