Avg got updated not so long ago I think to version 7.5 or something, and Avast recently got a new update too, can we also say that Avira might have an upgrade too like 7.5 or 8 with some new looks and a http scanner? Hey one can hope!:D

What I know for the suite for the rest of the year is, a beefed up firewall, better rootkit detection and maybe, web scanning.

Oh, we can always hope they add registry cleaning and a duplicate files finder.

anyway, to keep OT ... i think antivir WILL bring a new version soon, they seem to be pretty quick at these things. (when compared to some.... hmm  )

Question is, will it be in the free version or not? Hard to say I guess, but I would kinda expect it to show up only in the Premium. Another way to increase sales for sure...

It better not slow down down anthing. If it does then Avira better let it only be an optional tool that can be uninstalled separately.

I hope it would be optional to install, but for me I would love it and would probably buy the premium version because of it, that's why I like nod32 alot also because of the http scanner and it's light on my system.

I know they are looking at improving the interface and possibly including a few other things too.
What I don't know is if I'll live long enough to see it.

Why ? :doubt: It will be out this year... I don't think they would work more then let's say 3-4 months to a http scanner and some other tweaks. :)

What I like is, the fact that Avira doesnt feel that a new version is due out because a year has past. How many times have we seen vendors just label a new version name over the same old crap. Avira will continue to enhance and add to their suite as things are created and/or improved. There are no time frames, just good old hard work. But there are some nice things coming. What makes it or doesnt, I cant say.

    This shows Dr.Web 4.33 was released on September 27, 2005. Virus Chaser 5.0a based on Dr.Web 4.33 was released November 2005. :)

Anyway, back on topic, I think AntiVir is quite nice as it is. No need to rush out with a new version just yet....But an HTTP scanner would be nice. :)

I hope Avira adds self-protection. I don't want to pay 40 dollars for SSM, and it seems Prevx Free and Cyberhawk Free have limited malware termination protection abilities.

You can use ProcessGuard free version to protect Avira. I use the full version but the free version will give you this protection also.

ProcessGuard doesn't work on Vista yet, does it? I use a Vista system.

Sorry, I guess I should not have assumed you had XP. PG doesn't work on Vista. It hooks the kernel and that is a no-no in Vista. Gavin posted and said it was working in Vista but that was one of the last posts from anyone at DiamondCS last year.

I will not use Vista in part precisely because programs like PG will not work on it. I want programs that I trust to hook the kernel. I don't like that Microsoft has taken even more control away from the user if they have Vista. I want to be able to protect myself against Microsoft's desire to deny me full control of my own computer.

This would be nice too. It is very easy to crash Avira's process... and also a pre-boot loading would be nice also.

Yes, better boot protection is also on my wish list for Avira's firewall. Good suggestion!

I am forced to use Vista, since it's on my new computer, and I wouldn't buy another one for a while.
