I'm just hoping for the lightest and most capable AV and Firewall possible. Any of the other stuff I don't have much use for as most any browser does the popup, ad blocking, cookie control, etc. Adding these things would only serve to bog down ESS and seem totally unnecessary. The same goes for parental controls. Eset's Nod32 is known for being light and effective and I suspect ESS will be released the same. If anyone can pull off a lean security suite without the fluff I think Eset can. There are already countless security suites that are packed to the gills with functions that duplicate what the browser already does. Keep ESS lean and mean please. More is not always better.

Get rid of the bloat user interface

I've been a Nod32 user for many years but now... I think the end is near.

I installed ESS last week, had a few looks at the bla bla bla and baaah user interface. I was looking for straightforward and to the point configuration options... and got lost in all the unnecessary tabs and buttons .... with some luck I found the advanced firewall configuration.... and my feeling here too... bah. As advanced configuration I would expect to find something looking like Kerio 2.15 or Tinysoftware 2005 Pro configuration screens. Advanced modes looks like pushing more buttons and tabs rather than direct firewall configuration.

    Disappointed? Yes.

Do I need to mention that ESS already left my computer?

    Kind regards.

    Hi Itsme

please, if you have some constructive notices and suggestions, send it to betasupport@eset.sk. Don't forget ESS is in beta version and there is no reason to don't change features, that users reports as a bad.

    Thanks a lot.
    Cheers.

    Well my advice is simple.

Strip out everything out of the user interface that is not functional. Users don't read comments in the user interface once they got used to it. Everything that does not directly relate to functionality can best be moved to or mentioned in an extensive and elaborated user manual.

Ease of use... eliminate every unnecessary mouse movement or button click. It's as simple as that.

I would have liked to redesign the user interface from scratch... unfortunately I am too busy managing software development projects. Years ago I spent much time advising improvement in the Tinysoftware firewall interface via their user forums. (verions 3 and 4) Fortunatly they listened and much was implemented in TPF 5 and most recent release. Have a look at it and you will understand what I mean. Many TPF users regret the disappearance of Tinysoftware.... many are looking for a worthy replacement. I hope the ESS could be The One.

    Regards

    My suggestions/requests:

    - In general: Keep the whole concept the way it is atm. A fast, ressource friendly and quiet application. I really like that compared to other products spammin with popups

    - Firewall: I would like to see the firewall compenent expanded. ZoneAlarm or Outpost are good examples here

    - Antivirus: Seems all good

    - AntiSpam: Works fine for me, but I think it would be really nice to see the Spammodule integration expanded to other mail client like Thunderbird.

    I totally agree!
That's the request I was going to make as well, and I think all the past users of the Sygate Firewall (now defunkkt..Thx allot Symantec) will like to see is more concise logging of active connections, and Allowed connections as well, not just blocked ones.
I was constantly using the connections log in Sygate to see what was being allowed as well as being denied, and now that Active Ports doesn't work with Vista, a firewall that shows Active Connections also is needed even more!!

Please Eset engineering type folks, please add active connections to the logging, and log all connections both allowed and blocked in the logs.

    Thank You
