    Hi all,
one of my two cd/dvd drives started opening and closing itself today, for no reason I can discern.

I have heard that this can be a sign of trojan activity, but there are no strange processes running, boclean didn't flag anything, a scan with avira comes up as clean, and the "HIPS" portion of spyware terminator didn't ask about any new .exe's or .dll's trying to run, which I guess pretty much rules that out.

What else could cause this? o_O

The logs of ssm pro (which I pretty much never run, as most of it's incomprehensible to me, but I fired up when this started happening) showed nothing unusual that i could see, and it didn't log anything at all when the drive continued to whiz in / out sporadically.

Sometimes it would whiz out, and back in immediately, sometimes it would stay out for about 5 mins, and then close.

btw it was only one of the drives doing this.

If anyone has any ideas about what could cause this, I'd be really grateful.

    Thanks, argus

    naw, it's just a ghost, don't worry about it.:D

yea, the link Get has makes sense. This happened to my friend though. He just disassembled it and put it back together after cleaning. He also cleaned out spyware and found random software conflicting each other. Just clean everything out.

    thanks for the replies :)
it seems to have stopped doing it, for now at least.

When I booted up yesterday, it popped out, then back in again, before I logged on, and hasn't done it since o_O

I guess the ghost got bored and is now haunting elsewhere.
