What seems to happen is NOD's Service is delayed in loading, and whatever process is going on, keeps other apps from loading as well. Every once in a while, NOD would give me a Kernal error.

What brought it to my attention was that the NOD tray icon didn't appear for a long time and that there was too much free RAM at bootup after the OS loaded which indicated something major wasn't running. Quickly going into XP's Services showed NOD's Service not started. It would eventually load.

I turned AAW's Service to Manaul from the beginning, so I don't think that doing that will help, or turning the service to auto start, which I tried, didn't help either.

The other issue is that, at least in my case, unstalling AAW didn't resolve this. Since it was only a day betwen installing AAW and my noticiing the problem, doing an SR returned evrything back to normal. Otherwise I would have restored a Drive Image.

I didn't have any auto option enabled, totaly on demand:

    No auto start
    No auto scan
    No auto update

I didn't try any of these options - especially auto start, because I'm not interested in running the program that way.

Whatever it is, it seems to be just confined to the presence of NOD, it is running on another system with KAV and none of these problems so far. Same settings - no auto anything, and AAW's service is set to manually start.

Well , it is very good you posted for a potential problem . I haven't installed the latest release of Ad-Aware because I see no point in doing this but I have tested beta6 with NOD32 v2.7 and I found no problems on Win XP.

It is very stupid to make the application (Ad-Aware) run as a service when it is just for on-demand scan (the free version) . Anyway , you may provide ESET Support with more information about the case :thumb:

    Hi
There is a heated discussion taking place over in this thread, about services running in XP. It makes some interesting reading, but it is rather a long thread. Read at your own risk :D , and don't shoot the messenger.

This may not help the OP, but bring this to the attention of all users.
    Cheers :)
P.S. I hope my pointing to another discussion does not go against the TOS.
